A Wedding Shower Checklist: 8 Crucial Steps You Need To Follow

Feb 27, 2008
Let's get straight to it. Below are the 8 steps you must add to your wedding shower checklist to get you on your way to organising a great shower party.

Who's going to host the party?

Traditionally the maid of honour tends to plan the shower party. But today, anything goes and it is perfectly acceptable for both family and friends to work together to organize, host and share the cost of the wedding shower.

Do you know when the party should be held?

Because of the busy schedule the bride and her family will have in the lead up to her wedding, it is best to hold the shower about four to six weeks before the wedding.

For this reason, it is important to let the bride know in advance of the date of the wedding shower. You could even make it through the day on a Sunday for afternoon tea or do a 'girly-lunch' through the week.

Who should be invited

Apart from your family members, the host should invite people you know well whether it be friends, relatives or work colleagues. You don't want to invite too many people, as a large group tends to split off in small separate groups.

You want everyone to interact with each other and be a manageable size for everybody to play the hilarious shower games and not feel left out. Taking all this into consideration, a comfortable shower should involve about 10-20 people.

Decide your shower theme

It's more fun to have a theme for your shower. It can be more fun than your wedding theme. Use this theme throughout the rest of your shower planning as outlined in this checklist.

Choosing a theme should not be difficult. Did you know that the kitchen theme is the most popular. This being because there are so many kitchen accessories to choose from.

The host knows the bride well and will surely fit a theme around either what the bride and groom need, or their lifestyle. For example if the happy couple are both into health and fitness, then a fitness theme could be an option.

Food, favors, games and thank you cards

Food: The menu for the food would depend on two factors. One, the location of your party and two, the theme you are having. If you were to have a wine-tasting theme, for example, a finger buffet consisting of small nibbles with cheese and crackers would be appropriate.

Favors: These aren't that necessary really. My guess is that your having favors at your wedding anyway. Nevertheless, some people like to give shower favors to their guests as a way of saying thank-you.

Games: Everyone should be included in the shower games. Shower party games are a great ice-breaker for people to get to know each other. Games can include bridal shower bingo as this is always a big hit as is 'what's in the bag (memory game).

Thank You Notes: Letting your guests know that you really appreciate what they have done, and for the gifts they have brought you is important. Sending each one a thank-you card is a great gesture to show your appreciation.

Weddy shower party's are intended to be light and fun. Yes, a lot of planning is involved but bride and guests all think that they are worth the effort. They are a good excuse for a good laugh and the bride and groom get gifts for their home...
