Dangers Of Diabetes

There is no doubt that diabetes presents a danger for lots of people around the world. It is shortening the lives and decreasing the quality of life for millions of people. Thankfully when you understand how serious it is to be diabetic then take steps to control it you are able to avoid many of the negative consequences of this terrible disease.

Diabetes is a disorder of metabolism. The way our bodies use digested food for growth and energy. Diabetes is associated with long-term complications that affect almost every part of the body. Diabetes is widely recognized as one of the leading causes of death and disability in the United States.

Glucose is produced by the liver and is also entering the body through the foods that you eat as a diabetic. Unfortunately, it is not even sufficient to simply avoid sugar in any form since a diabetics body will take any carbohydrate, especially simple carbohydrates, and convert them into glucose so that eating a slice of bread can add as much glucose to your body as eating a small piece of candy.

Type 1 diabetes is categorized as an autoimmune disease and accounts for almost 10% of diagnosed diabetes within the United States.

You cannot write about diabetes without mentioning glucose. Glucose will increase in the body to dangerous levels when one is a diabetic. Excess glucose Will empty through the release of urine but not at a high enough rate to completely protect the body.

As to risk factor, this most frequently enters the picture in people who have, or may contract, type 2 diabetes. Lack of exercise, and proper diet, and carrying excess weight even in small amounts makes it much more likely that one will inevitably contract type 2 diabetes.

Diabetic neuropathy, abnormal and decreased sensation, usually in a 'glove and stocking' distribution starting with the feet but potentially in other nerves, later often fingers and hands. Diabetic amyotrophy is muscle weakness due to neuropathy. Diabetic nephropathy, damage to the kidney which can lead to chronic renal failure, eventually requiring dialysis.

Again, it is critically important to remember that diabetes presents not only short-term problems but also many serious long-term complications as well and this will influence the functioning of almost the entire body.

Diabetes is a disease in which the body does not produce or properly use insulin. Diabetes is a chronic disease that affects as many as 21 million Americans. Diabetes is a chronic condition that needs close attention, but with some practical knowledge, you can become a much more healthy person.
