Fear - The Human Emotion That Can Immobilize You - Don't Allow It

Feb 29, 2008
Everyone has fear of something. What's your greatest fear? Fear of flying, fear of public speaking, fear of dying, fear of being alone, fear of spiders, fear of what?

How do you deal with your fear/s? Do you face them straight on or push them down inside yourself hoping they will go away, or do you stick you head in the sand like the proverbial ostrich?

Let's pick a fear. Fear of dying? What is the point of fearing it. Nobody gets out of this life alive so don't worry about it. Take care of yourself physically and emotionally and don't put yourself in situations where death is inevitable. Start living.

If you spend a lot of time worrying about dying you don't leave much time for living your life to its fullest. So, just get on with life, make your stay on earth meaningful.

How about a fear of public speaking. It is said that many people would rather die than speak in public. How out of whack is that? Analyze your fear/s. What is the worst thing that could happen if you subject yourself to a certain fear. In this case, speaking in public. Someone might laugh at you, boo you, walk out of the room on you. On the other hand, they might actually learn something from you, and might even thank you for your presentation. If the negative actually happened, how would it effect you? Would you be struck with a deadly disease, lose your family, lose your job, die? No. So, what's the big deal?

Fear of flying, another biggie. Statistics prove it is more dangerous to drive on our highways than to fly. The benefits are you get there a lot quicker than driving, you can use the time to sleep, read or chat and arrive rested, rather than beat up from driving. So, it is an unwarranted fear. Book that flight.

Fear of being alone. Being alone is a choice you make. Make friends, visit hospitals, volunteer, join a club that features your favorite hobby or pastime. Your time will be well spent and who knows in addition to making some new friends, you might find Mr. or Miss Right. So lose the fear and just jump in and do it.

The main thing is to pick that fear apart. Write down what it is that scares you on one side of a piece of paper and why it is really silly to be afraid on the other side. It will make sense and you will be sorry about wasting all that time worrying about a fear of something that need not be feared in the first place.

One thing you should never fear is being vulnerable to attack by predators. Be prepared, aware, always have the element of surprise on your side, and have a personal protection product to back you up.

Be safe, not sorry.
