Iced Tea - One Of The Most Venerable Of Refreshments

Mar 1, 2008
From all walks of life iced tea is a cool refreshing drink that has a long history of being enjoyed. However, first some clarification is in order; that it is not ice tea it is iced tea. What that means is that is not made from ice, but instead it is "iced" or made cold.

Served around the world, iced tea has a history that goes all the way back to the nineteenth century. We will discuss the story of tea and it's omnipresent proliferation in the world today.

Making Iced Tea

In nearly every grocery store in the United States you will find regular teas and tea-type leaves used to make up iced tea. In general, tea is initially brewed hot and after made cold. Various methods of making the tea cold are to have it stored in a refrigerated area and being iced down with a collection of ice cubes, or possibly a combination of the two.

Iced tea has the unique characteristic of being made from different types of teas. These include white tea, green tea, red tea, oolong tea, or even any of the processed teas such as jasmine or herbal tea, which as a matter of fact not really thought to be true teas at all. Nevertheless, in the majority of areas, the favored kind of tea that most people and manufacturers use for making iced tea is black.

Iced tea also has a different way of being made which is particularly well liked in the southern region of the United States, and this has to to with adding the right amount of water and a selection of tea, commonly bagged, into a clear container and let it sit outdoors in the sun to let it literally soak up the sun.

This kind of tea is usually known as 'sun tea' and some think that by leaving it out to soak up the suns rays, it ends up with a totally unique taste in comparison to other teas.

Serving Iced Tea

This type of beverage is enjoyed any time particularly in the warm summer months by people all over the world. Some people particularly enjoy it in a tall glass with ice, while others in the America's southern region are religious in there ways and insist on enjoying it by dissolving a nice filled bag of sugar into it. This type of tea typically referred to as 'sweet tea' certainly is sweet and in fact resulted in iced tea taking on a whole new meaning.
