what a contact lens for dry eyes can do for you

Mar 1, 2008
You may not have heard of contact lens for dry eyes. It's normal to think that there isn't such a thing. After all, contact lenses are often associated with the causes of dry eyes and not the solution to it. Is there a chance that contacts can actually be a part of the treatment for dry eyes?

Eye Dryness

We all know what we need tears and eye moisture for. They are the eyes' number one defense against dust, particles and organisms that can do damage to the eyes. Not all of us though have sufficient eye moisture all the time. Those who do lack moisture end up suffering from the symptoms of dry eyes such as itchiness and discomfort.

There are different reasons why people suffer from dry eyes. Certain medications, sickness and aging are among some of the possible reasons. You could also be frequently in a dusty or air controlled environment. It is also possible that your dry eyes could be a result of too much work concentration that could prevent blinking. For some people, contact lenses are also a cause.

Contact Lenses and Dryness

There are various kinds of contact lenses. Each may promote eye dryness in a different way. Rigid lenses for example cause dry eyes because they push away moisture. Soft lenses do not repel moisture. They instead absorb eye moisture. Absorption happens when they get dried up themselves. There are also people who suffer from dry eyes due to contact lenses for another reason. They could have been wearing contacts everyday for years. This could lead to lenses gradually rubbing against the cornea.

Contact lens for dry eyes wasn't available to people in the past decades. There are however, some traditional ways of dealing with dryness. Doctor recommended eye drops applied without the lenses may be able to solve your problem. You can also apply some moistening drops on your lenses while they are on your eyes. These temporarily provide contacts with sufficient moisture to prevent it from taking the moisture from your eyes.

One common sense way of dealing with dry eyes is to take care of your contacts. You should clean your contact lenses regularly. They should also be taken off when you do not need them or when they need to be replaced.

New Contact Lenses

These days, there is a brand new solution for dry eyes. You can correct your vision and avoid dry eyes by buying the new line of contact lenses that keep moist during wear. There are also moist contact lenses for people who do not have vision problems but need some help with dry eyes. Some of these moist lens brands are so comfortable to wear that tired and burning eyes won't be much of a problem anymore. You might even forget that you are actually wearing lenses. The best thing about these lenses is that they do not need to be frequently moistened with external solutions.

Contact lens for dry eyes can truly be your best solution for maximum eye comfort. You will definitely worry less about dry eyes. Visit your eye doctor today for proper diagnosis and ask about getting moist contacts.
