Travel Guide To Buenos Aires

Mar 2, 2008
Buenos Aires is the capital and the largest city in Argentina. The Greater Buenos Aires population is approximately 13 million. It has been called the Paris of South America. The modern buildings of the financial center starkly contrast the classic European-styled architecture found in the older sections of the city. It is both cultured and contemporary.

Buenos Aires is great place to visit and discover with its wonderful year-round climate, friendly down-to-earth locals, historical sights, and surroundings. It may only take two to tango, but it is so much better when you are dancing to the rhythm of city in sync.

Here are some rich suggestions on luxury hotels, fine restaurants, and local happenings.

Luxury Hotel in Buenos Aires

The Panamericano Buenos Aires Hotel & Resort is located in the downtown area that is called "El Centro." Nightlife, clubs, theaters, cinemas, and restaurants are within walking distance from the resorts lobby. The five-star resort features the Nivel 23 Club & Spa, the Celtic Pub, and the Tomoi and La Luciernaga restaurants. The Emperador Hotel Buenos Aires is located in Recoleta, Buenos Aires. Most rooms offer a great view of the City Center. The indoor swimming pool and sauna along with the full-service spa and solarium are soothing, replenishing, and invigorating. Check out the exclusive Emperador Polo Club, the fine dining at Maximus Restaurant and the great atmosphere of Olivers Bar. The Abasto Plaza Hotel is decidedly pro tango. There are rooms ornately decorated paying tribute to the tango, as well as free dance lessons for guests of the posh hotel in Balvenera, Buenos Aires. Championship-caliber dancers teach the Tango Clinic at the Abasto.

Best Restaurants in Buenos Aires

The Patagonia Sur is a homage to Argentine cooking and produce. The Old World charm of the classic Italian-inspired architecture creates a casual, friendly environment. The menu has many regional beef entrees; and the wine list is extensive. Filo is a swank Italian restaurant located in the city near the Plaza San Martin. It is an alternative to the restaurants specializing in Argentine meat dishes. Check out the art gallery on the lower floor. Sucre is either a restaurant within a club or a club within a restaurant. The high ceilings and factory chic decor stimulate a clubby atmosphere, while the Argentine-inspired cuisine and wine cellar are most formidable.

To Do in Buenos Aires

You need to see it live to love it like a native. Head for the La Bombanera Stadium and get to know 57,000-plus screaming fanatical futbol fans. The 2010 World Cup with 32 countries represented will be played there. The Museo de Ciencias Naturales Bernardino Rivadavia, a.k.a. the Museum of Natural Sciences , has an extraordinary collection of dinosaur bones, shells, and other archeological relics. The museum, which was built in the early 1900s, is somewhat of an exhibit in its own right. Some locals believe it may be haunted. Actually, the impressive displays could keep you off the streets for the entire day.

Golf is increasing in popularity in BA steadily. Championship courses are less than 40 miles away from the city. BA Golf Outings has info on courses and golf-tour vacation packages. There are more than a dozen courses to be played.

Buenos Aires has a lot of property development and renovation either recently completed or in progress. The area is totally tourist friendly. A little Spanish can take you far in getting around the town.
