How to Lose Weight 100% Naturally

Mar 2, 2008
While it may seem difficult to lose weight, the reality is that keeping weight off after you have lost it is often the most difficult aspect of dieting. Research indicates that most people start a new diet several times per year. During the time they are on the diet they often follow a strict, regimented eating plan and over a short period of time they do in fact lose weight. Unfortunately, once they veer off that restricted eating plan and return to eating normally, the weight piles back on. Furthermore, most yo-yo dieters not only regain the original amount of weight they lost during a period of one year, but often even exceed that weight gain.

Obviously the facts indicate that diets simply do not work. So, what is to be done about it? Should we simply throw up our hands in despair and accept permanent weight loss as being an unachievable goal?

Far from it. Permanent weight loss is possible; however, in order to achieve that goal it is imperative that we begin to approach weight loss from a different mindset. Losing weight permanently must focus not on crash and fad diets but instead on changing to a healthy, fit lifestyle.

Research shows that one of the reasons crash and fad diets simply do not work is that the growth of a fat cell actually speeds up when it is deprived. That's right-while you're limiting yourself to a restrictive diet in order to lose weight your fat cells respond by clutching onto that fat. As a result, as soon as you go off the diet, the fat growth speeds up.

In addition, crash and fat diets often interfere with your metabolism, making it difficult to lose weight and keep it off in the future. When your body is starved of vital nutrients your metabolism shuts off its ability to burn calories.

Considering the clear evidence that crash and fad diets simply do not work, it is important to understand the benefits of switching to a healthy, fit lifestyle. Easy steps you can utilize to get started include:

1. Eating smaller meals throughout the day. This helps to ensure you are not deprived, keeps you feeling full and allows your metabolism to work at an optimal rate.

2. Switch your focus from restrictive diets to simply eating healthier. Opt for whole grains, low-fat milk, fresh fruits and vegetable. Limit caffeine and sugar intake. If you smoke, make a concentrated effort to stop.

3. Start exercising on a routine basis. Avoid overdoing it when you first get started but focusing on activities that you enjoy two or three times a week is a great way to increase your body's overall health and well-being as well as jump start your weight loss.

4. Look for ways to motivate yourself. Enlist a buddy to lose weight and exercise with you. Set small goals and reward yourself when you achieve. Finally, take delight in knowing that not only are you losing extra weight that will stay off but you are also doing something good for your whole body.
