Knowing The Mesothelioma Symptoms

Mar 3, 2008
The mesothelioma symptoms that most people experience can be very detrimental. These symptoms are somewhat different for each person, but there are commonalities that exist. In other words, not every person may have exactly the same symptoms as another person, but both of their symptoms will overlap to some degree, and they will have some symptoms in common.

The most common of the mesothelioma symptoms include chest pain, trouble breathing, and feeling tired more often than average. These symptoms, however, are attached to many other conditions including heart problems, lung problems, depression, and anxiety. Because these symptoms are so similar to other symptoms from other diseases, mesothelioma is not always suspected by a doctor when someone presents with these problems.

Usually, when a person goes to their doctor and is complaining of mesothelioma symptoms, that person is tested for heart related issues. The doctor will look for heart failure, blocked arteries, and other types of issues. Generally, he or she will not look for mesothelioma unless the other tests come back negative and the patient specifically says that he or she was exposed to asbestos.

There is no other common cause of mesothelioma, and when symptoms show up it is important for a doctor to look at all of the possibilities so that a person with mesothelioma symptoms can be diagnosed and treated properly. Sometimes symptoms are not treated right because the doctor does not realize that they come from the disease. This can severely delay treatment for people who need help and therefore these individuals often do not live as long as they could have otherwise.

In addition, the mesothelioma symptoms that a person deals with cause them problems with everyday living. They are often short of breath, and the pain that they are in can keep them from the activities that they enjoyed before their symptoms began. There are treatments available, though, with surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy being popular options.

These can prolong the life of people with mesothelioma symptoms, and they can be a comfort to families and friends who do not want to lose the people that they care about. However, they do not work for everyone. When the symptoms are very advanced, it can mean that the disease has progressed far enough that the treatments normally used to save lives may not work. This is largely why it is necessary to move forward with the diagnosis and treatment of mesothelioma symptoms when they first appear.
