Liquids Can Hurt Your Laptop

Mar 3, 2008
One of the greatest inventions of all time after the personal home computer has got to be the laptop computer. So many people today own them and many find it very difficult to function in there day to day life without them. It is not just people in the business world that treasure them.

There are so many individuals around the world that use them on an everyday basis. School students and moms that work at home appreciate the easy movement of the laptop. A mom with many things to juggle can move them from place to place when she has to and students may have access to them at school as well as wherever else they go.

You can use them on the road in an automobile, anywhere you may end up. Wireless internet connections are so appreciated and the amount of places that they might be carried to is rapidly multiplying. Individuals could even take it camping if you can get a signal.

Due to all the movable ease that you can enjoy with a laptop, you also have the problem for losing it, it being taken, or it being damaged. Laptops are a lot like cell phones, loss, theft, and damage that is your fault will probably not be taken care of under your warranty.

Water problems are one thing that gets done to a laptop more often than you may think. The danger of something getting spilled in a laptop's keypad and seeping inside it to the circuit board, is much easier done than with a tower of a desk top set up.

If this event occurs and the laptop is damaged by water or some other thing, do not go off the deep end yet. It is just human that you might have this reaction because of the fear of not just losing the laptop computer, but losing all the information it has inside that can be totally valuable and could be impossible to recover.

The first thing that you do is to get the laptop off immediately. Disconnect the laptop carefully if it is plugged in. Turn it upside down to empty out as much liquid as will come out. Take out the battery and dry it briskly with a cloth.

The next thing to do is carefully take out the screws that attaches the equipment together. With an absorbent, lint free cloth, very carefully dab away the liquid. Then do not touch it for a full 24 hours and maybe longer. Be assured it is thoroughly dry before you reassemble the device and trying it out. When you replace the screws be sure it is the same the way it was.

Be advised, this procedure is only if your laptop has been exposed to water. If it was a soft drink or any kind of sticky or acidic liquid, you should still unplug and get out the battery. You might clean the circuitry with alcohol, but you may do more damage to a laptop that might be repaired better by a computer expert.
