How Do Snoring Reduction Pillows Work?

Mar 6, 2008
There are many different brands and types of snoring reduction pillows on the market today, some very affordable and some that cost hundreds and hundreds of dollars. If you're in the market for such a product, you may be wondering how they work and whether or not the more expensive models are worth the extra money.

Typically a person snores when their head falls back and their mouth falls open. The body is not meant to breathe through the mouth, and when this happens, the tissues in your mouth and throat dry up. When they're dry, they vibrate as air passes over them. This makes the sound we call snoring. Snoring reduction pillows work by cradling your head and neck in such a way that your head won't fall back that way and your mouth will stay closed while you sleep. They are typically made of foam which is firmer than the regular feather pillows you're used to. Because they're firm, they will hold your head up.

Most snoring reduction pillows are also built with a scoop shape in the middle or sides so that your head is in a comfortable position, not forced into a position that will interfere with your sleep. Many people who use a snoring reduction pillow also report less tension in their shoulders and back as well as a reduction in their snoring.

When it comes to the price differences in the many snoring reduction pillows that are available, sometimes it's just a matter of a name brand, but sometimes it is the material that's being used. Some foams are denser and will last longer than others, and of course some pillows are machine washable while others are not. There are also some snoring reduction pillows that have that scoop shape on all sides of it so that no matter what position you sleep in - on your back, side, or stomach - you will be comfortable and won't snore.

You might want to start with a more affordable snoring reduction pillow and see if that works for you. If it does work but is just slightly uncomfortable in any way, move up to another brand that has a better grade of foam. Most people who use these products report good results when it comes to snoring cessation, so it may very well be worth your time and the expense.
