Living In The Now

Mar 12, 2008
"The secret of health for both mind and body is not to mourn for the past, worry about the future or anticipate troubles, but to live in the present moment wisely and earnestly." - The Buddha

There is so much written on the topics of worry and regret. This must be recognized as truth by all; that worrying about the future and feeling guilty about the past is an absolute waste of time, yet so many are caught in one web or the other and sometimes both. Despite all that is said and written many people spend their entire lives thinking about the past. If you have ever known anyone remotely like that, you know the grief they go through day in and day out. It is like a personal hell that they create for themselves, crying and anxious about everything because everything is somehow tied in with one wrong act or several mistakes done when they were very young. One of the true gifts of life is learning how to forgive yourself. There are those among us who perpetuate the grief of the guilty person by telling them they are never going to go to heaven or they are never going to see God because of their sin. My advice is, ask for forgiveness immediately after you have wronged someone, and then forgive yourself, because God has forgiven you. Forget it and move on. Stop dwelling on the negative aspects of life and begin a new now. That is what living in the "now" means. Stop living in the past or the future, and live in the "now". Now is the moment that counts. If you are not doing wrong now, than it is Impossible to do wrong since you are always living in the now. However, if you disengage the brain and you stop consciously living in the moment, you are bound to drift off and do something you did not count on.

Many spend their future in the moment, the clock ticking away as they worry about what will happen tomorrow or next month or next year. These people are very good at using their imagination to draw crystal clear pictures of just how bad their future is going to be. If they could just learn to replace those negative pictures with positive ones instead they would learn the secret of using positive affirmations to catapult them into a brighter tomorrow that they can just as well imagine. But now is the moment that counts. Now is when we need to be positive. If we spend enough minutes being positive, we will collect hours and days of positive thinking at that will change our lives for the better, don't you agree?

Now I am not saying that the legal case you might be facing is going to go away, or that health problem will clear up, or that broken relationship will mend. The chances are good that all those things will get cleared up or at least positively affected by a positive approach. But some things are even beyond our own healing. You would be surprised at just how much healing we could do if we lived positively in the now. Walter Russell the originator of the term "new age" said: "When it becomes a part of every man's thinking that a single thought can change the polarity of our entire body toward either life or death - and can likewise change its entire chemistry toward increasing alkalinity or acidity to strengthen it or weaken it - or can change the shape of every corpuscle of matter in the entire body in the direction of either growth or decay - then the medical profession will radically change both its principles and its practices with the ailment of bodies."

You may shun eastern religion and its many philosophies, but the Chinese have known for centuries that there is good health to be found merely by the way we think. If we can change our body chemistry through positive thinking, it sure is a feasible and inexpensive thing we can do on our own to help ourselves. It is so easy though to get caught up on the negative whirlpool that surrounds us. The fight is worth it to keep your health.

I suffer from a disease myself which I fight everyday to stop its progression. However I feel the affects when I am surrounded with negative thoughts of others or even negative television. I have had to learn how not to anticipate troubles. I can tell when I am victorious. I can feel it in my bones and muscles. Perhaps you too need to learn how to stop worrying about the future, or maybe stop feeling guilty about the past. Start livening in the now and watch the difference it makes in your body and mind.
