What Do You Know About the Wonderful Uses of Vinegar?

Mar 18, 2008
If you don't currently include apple cider vinegar or traditional balsamic vinegar in your general diet, you may want to consider it's many uses. You will soon learn about the numerous advantages and uses of vinegar you may never have considered or known about.

More Information About Apple Cider and Balsamic Vinegar

First and foremost, don't confuse natural vinegar with the man-made synthetic ethyl-alcohol vinegar. This unnatural imposter has zero nutrition value and this author does not recommend it for human consumption.

Natural vinegar is produced by airborne bacteria called "acetobacter aceti". Whenever these bacteria come into contact with liquids whose alcohol content is less than 18%, they produce acetic acid.

The ancient Sumerians (thought to be the world's earliest civilization) used vinegar as a general tonic, a condiment, an anti-biotic, a detergent and preservative amongst other things.

As you read more about fine vinegars, you will discover a world where vinegar labels are read like fine wine labels.

Apple Cider Vinegar and Balsamic Vinegar Facts

The best known of the natural vinegars is apple-cider vinegar. It is much less expensive than the gourmet vinegars and is ideal for the general uses mentioned throughout this article.

All natural vinegars have beneficial uses but not all vinegars are created equal. Gourmet vinegars have been favored by royalty for many centuries.

One of the best known traditional vinegars is known as balsamic vinegar (aceto balsamico). Literary references to it first appeared in 1046 AD. The birthplace of balsamic vinegar is Modena, Italy.

The recent increased interest in balsamic vinegar has most likely been brought about by the varied creations that include the slightly sweet flavored and rich flavored vinegar.

The Numerous Beneficial Uses for Vinegar

1. Condiment: While apple-cider vinegar can be used in recipes, your best results will come from using one of the rich and flavorful gourmet vinegars.

2. Mold Elimination. Prevent mold producing bacteria by wiping down jars of preserves and canned foods with vinegar.

3. Respiratory Congestion. Clear up congestion by inhaling a vapor mist from a steaming pot water and 7 to 8 spoonfuls of apple cider vinegar.

4. General Tonic. Apple cider vinegar and honey has been used as a cure-all for thousands of years. These uses include: prevention of apathy, obesity, hay fever, asthma, rashes, food poisoning, heartburn, sore throat, bad eyesight, dandruff, brittle nails and bad breath.

5. Mildew Elimination. It will eliminate mildew, dust and odors when vinegar-soaked cloth is used to wipe down walls, cabinet shelves and other similar surfaces.

6. Poaching Eggs. Add a teaspoon of apple-cider vinegar to the water to prevent separation.

7. Pet Food Additive. Add it to your pets' drinking water: to eliminate body odor and encourage shiny coats.

This article covered brief information about the two most popular types of vinegar and their uses. There are many more varieties with different properties and flavors.

The more you learn about the many wonderful uses for vinegar, the more you will see the necessity of adding it to your daily life and diet.
