Cake Decorating Instructions - Tip For Easier Cake Decorating

Mar 19, 2008
At one time cake decorating used to be so simple. You smoothed over some frosting from a can on to the cake with a butter knife, placed a candle in the middle (or whatever little decorative touch you could muster) and you were done.

Create a decorative cake that's that little bit more special is a lot more difficult these days as there are higher standards to be met. To produce a more impressive cake you are going to have to be a little more creative.

The amount of people who are interested in cake decoration has grown by a staggering amount. This is due mainly to the fact that most people want to take their cake decoration skills to a new level. Here are useful tips to help you become more professional in your cake decoration.

Cake Decorating Instructions & Tips

Rule # 1 - Stay Cool

Maybe you may have decided to bake and decorate your own cake from scratch, you have felt inspired lately to experiment in the kitchen. How hard can it be right?

What's the harm you think I can tell a few people I'm going to be baking a cake. Maybe you even promise to share your cake at dinner or to bring your creation to the next dinner party or potluck. Don't start to worry just stay cool.

In fact, when it comes to baking and decorating your first cake, it is best not to give your cake away to other people. If it is the first time you have baked and decorated your own cake, just do it for yourself.

If you think you would like to bake your first cake for a really special or big occasion on your first attempt then I have one word for you, don't. This just puts you under extreme pressure to create the perfect cake.

Rule # 2 - Remember That There Is No Such Thing as the Perfect Cake

When you first arrive in the fabulous world of baking and cake decorating, you will find yourself being very critical of your baking and decorating creations.

You can forget baking the perfect cake, it's just not possible, even the best bakers cannot control the baking process to that extent.

The very nature of baking means that each cake you bake and decorate will be slightly off or slightly irregular. Amateur and professional chefs alike all agree that this is what makes baking so exciting and interesting.

The more experienced pastry chefs realize that these irregularities can happen they just have the advantage of knowing how to cover their mistakes.

Rule # 3 - Take Small Steps Toward Your Confectionary Creation

Starting small is one of the best policies when you are baking and decorating your first cake. This means do not decide to be to elaborate when you make your first cake.

Make your first cake nice and simple with the minimum of decoration. That way you will not be setting yourself up for a big disappointment.

Decorating your cake simply is a good way to start out. You could use nuts, dried fruits and even edible flower petals, the secret is to keep things simple.

Rule # 4 - Look Through Books and Magazines But Don't Become apprehensive

Looking through books and magazines can give you some inspiration for your first baking and cake decorating creation. Sometimes you can find all this information intimidating, just don't let it get to you.

Modern day cake decorating has gone well beyond the usual butter cream variety.

There are many fine publications out there that can give you motivation and cake decorating instructions. These are ideal if you are interested in getting ideas about how to go about decorating a cake.
