Why is Shopping so Satisfying?

Mar 20, 2008
Shopping is something that everyone has to do, for some reason or other. You have to go shopping for clothes, food, household items, and other things to accommodate your day-to-day activities. Whatever the reason may be, an average person has to buy something everyday.

Necessity is the main reason for shopping

Necessity is the main reason for shopping. You have to buy foodstuffs and groceries to cook and feed yourself. So, when you complete your daily or weekly grocery shopping, you will be relieved that you have bought everything you need to run your household. You will also be satisfied that you have everything ready to cook for your kids and spouse who need to have their meals and daily necessities everyday.

Shopping for a home is another important thing you have to do. It is not possible for everyone to buy a home immediately after finding a job. So, once you have collected sufficient money and you can afford to buy yourself a house to settle in, you will feel a great sense of satisfaction. This is because it is only when you have your own house that you will really feel that you have settled down in life.

Shopping for luxuries has psychological effects

The next necessity, which can be considered a form of luxury, is a car. With so many brands and models of cars being released nowadays, you will find it difficult to choose the right car that suits your budget and your taste. However, after comparing numerous car prices, consulting with friends and family, and earning enough money to buy a car, you will feel really happy and satisfied when you actually get your first car. You will feel proud to be the owner of a car, and you will experience a sense of satisfaction for having accomplished one of the major goals in your life.

Besides going shopping out of necessity, there are many people who enjoy shopping for luxury items. Some people also shop according to the changing trends of the fashion industry. These people who buy luxuries and fashionable accessories will feel satisfied if they manage to get the latest items of the fashion world, or even things that are exclusive and precious.

Those who are always on the lookout for changing trends and fashions love to buy things that make them the target of envy wherever they go. They are attracted to items that are rare, so that they can stand out from the crowd.

Buying a gift for a loved one is really satisfying

Sometimes, a shopping spree can be something that the doctor recommends to help a patient get out of a bout of depression. Financial constraints, personal problems, health problems or just plain old depression can sometimes be solved with shopping, that is, if you can afford it. Buying something that you have always wanted but cannot afford will give you a great sense of satisfaction. And it is this feeling of satisfaction that will inspire you to have a more positive perception about life, and it can work in your favor to help you overcome your problems.

Buying the gift that you had always wanted to get for your mom, dad or spouse will also make you feel happy. You are satisfied not because you have finally bought the gift, but because of the look of happiness and surprise you see on the faces of your loved one when he or she receives the gift.

As you can see, there are many different reasons why people go shopping. Whichever reason you go shopping for, you will agree that shopping is indeed something that is enjoyable and satisfying.
