Washington DC Nightlife

Mar 21, 2008
A Night in DC: Washington DC is, of course, the hub of the United States of America. What most people do not realize, however, is it is also the hub of the American nightlife. Some of the most happening, wild clubs in the nation are located here. It stands to figure when considering that our nations leaders spend tiring days guiding our country. Even they need a night out on the town from time to time. After all, politicians are human too!

Shelly's Back Room: One of the more luxurious clubs that Washington DC holds claim to is Shelly's Back Room. This is a favorite for anyone seeking a nice relaxing evening out. It's also a choice location for premium cigar aficionados. This is not a high-energy atmosphere, but more of the classic lounges feel with comfort being the main focus. This place provides only the finest wines and best food dishes. The furniture here is all high quality and there are elegant chairs and couches to relax in. The lighting is very smooth and easy on the eyes. For the non-smokers, this establishment features high tech atmospheric purification devices to keep the smoke at a minimum. Shelly's Back room also provides a high definition television for your entertainment pleasure.

The Club Five: If you prefer an evening with a lot more energy to it, then give the Club Five on the corner of Connecticut Avenue and Eighteenth Street a try. This place is an atmosphere of raw electricity and adrenaline. If hard core dancing is a favorite of yours, then you will feel right at home as the Club Five presents a magnificent mix of top forty dance hits, hip hop and a decidedly Salsa style of dance music. One doesn't have to get all decked out in name brand expensive clothes to come here, as the dress is all as casual as you can get without showing up in your pajamas.

Blues Alley: For those who like the old school atmosphere, then The Blues Alley may be your night out of choice. Here you will find the unmistakable sounds of famous Jazz greats such as Dizzy Gillespie. Ironically, you may just be surprised to find that the sound is not a recording. The Blues Alley is a favorite hangout of the musician, as well as Blues greats Charlie Byrd and Wynton Marsalis. The atmosphere here is traditional jazzy with a candlelit room, dark lighting and a smoky sensation. If one didn't know better, he or she would swear that they had stepped into the 1940's. The drinks here are strong and the food is absolutely sinful in deliciousness. One might want to take time to reserve tickets to this fine nightspot as seating sells out fairly quickly due to the wide number of famed Jazz greats that frequent the stage of the Blue Alley.

As you can see, the nightlife options in Washington DC are as numerous and versatile as the citizens that call this lovely city home. No matter what your ideal of a good night out is, you can be most certain that DC has a place for you.
