Greek Antiques, American Heroes - Alexander, Washington, to Patton

Mar 24, 2008
Greek antiques books and all history speaks of great leaders being very common in their humanity and sense of common values with the great majority, who they saw as good. We talk further about these four virtues that seem to come down through the ages as each vital society holds off foreign forces bent on their destruction.

The common elements of this self defence or powerful offenses, is to Observe, then Orient your self. Make your decision, and then act. Business thes days could use this management skills and are hiring retired fighter pilots to instill these attack mentality ideals into routine workers not used to a powerful attack mentality.

Business interprets these fighter dives as another way to get around to making and executing the decision to send the batch to the next step of the value adding process. Then, they observe, they can attain growth rates of three times the industry average with two times the industry profit margins.

Here we see the message that chaos in the process of getting us widgets all in formation wastes time. Also then bosses make decisions way too late; all departments mis understand and protect their own interests; there are meetings, many excuses, over runs, confusion.

When it is time to decide, these studies look at a specific subject such as efficient Finnish forestry companies that can deliver computer paper to stores in America at less costs than from the vast forests of Canada next door.

This is profound interest to us all, and we will discuss how several manufacturers of wood products from the smaller forests of Finland create lower cost refined paper products, even while Finland delivers bargain printer paper to us in Canada and America. How they can do this and make huge profits, we discuss in a series of articles coming.

When we must Act, is again part of these studies that observe an inspiring example of survival by Finland. Defeated and subservient to Russia after WWII, forests once long ago depleted, the vast forests of Russia nearby closed to them.

Finland found ways to quick response time to specific orders from customers, created more efficient modern streamlined systems. Seeing the challenge, the unions cooperated with the forest companies to shut small, isolated, unproductive mills, with government and corporate cooperation, they all helped re educate and find new jobs for those affected.

With cooperation of industry, unions and all levels of government, people have been re trained, and found better jobs in more central towns where the most up to date mills, or cell phone factories keep a northern people living a high standard of living, and adjusting, as change happen, forests regrow, Finland adapts.

We could learn from people who long ago chopped down all their trees, have learned to nurture them back for a life for all.

Observe, Orient, Decide, and Act loop them back to trees and better lives for all. Finland, at huge disadvantage in 1945, has shown brilliant adapting can work.

From Greek and Roman times, to make the land most efficient and the people with it required all be flexible, till the field but have your sword nearby in case of an attack from strangers against you. You learned quickly how to duck, fake, take their swing but deliver your blows, or your better product.

Strategy and survival have been with us since we learned who was not our friend, wished us harm, and we had to prepare. And so it remains today. The challenges are enormous, and the risks. But the opportunities to see east meeting west in ways that complement rather than attack is such a better way.

If we apply the mental skills of a leading fighter pilot to the broader issues; we might read the book of your enemy as did Patton of Rommel, and not rush in somewhere unknown like Custer.

We have matured, mellowed, learned we are not a master race, and there there is not one. We are all as one. God says.
