Words She Will Cherish For A Lifetime

Mar 25, 2008
If you were able to take a poll of happily married couples and the atmosphere, location and other details of when they became engaged, the variety might be pretty overwhelming. But one thing that will jump out is that you could divide the ways people get engaged into two categories. Category #1 are spontaneous moments of overwhelming romance and passion when he popped the question. Category #2 are engagements that were carefully prepared for so it was clear that the moment was planned and thought through and carried out with the precision of a military invasion.

So what is ideal if you have it in your mind to propose is the best of both types of engagements? You want the feeling of spontaneity and romance so your lover is also overwhelmed with the emotion but you want the advantages of planning ahead so you are in complete control of how you pop this very important question, even if you are not completely in control of her answer.

One aspect of that moment when you propose to your sweetheart are the actual words you will say. They call it the "four little words" which are of course, "Will you marry me", but in a lot of cases men have been known to go on for quite some time before getting to the point. So along with planning the setting, whether the ring will play a role and even little things like the lighting and your outfit that night, think about the actual words you will say when you ask her what may be the most important question you ever ask.

A lot of how you "compose" that question will be influenced about whether you are going with a surprise or if by the time the actual question comes out of your lips, she is already aware of what is happening. If you go with the traditional image of a man on one knee before his bride and particularly if you propose to her in front of others, the tried and true of "will you marry me" is an old reliable.

Whatever your image of that perfect moment is, also remember that this special date will become a permanent part of your sweetheart's memories of your courtship and she will tell the story of how you proposed many times in the years to come. But also be very conscious that the odds are you are going to be plenty nervous about how to carry this important moment off. So make sure the way you plan on asking is something you can remember and execute well even if you are sweating buckets and are a bundle of nerves.

Just like she is your one and only and there isn't another girl like her, give some thought to using words to ask her this big question that are as special as she is. You may become overwhelmed with emotion and romance at the moment too and if that happens, many guys suddenly gush every thought and feeling they have about their girl. If you think that is going to happen or if it starts to happen, you might want to have a little bird ready to tell you to get to the point. Because by this time, your girl will be about to explode with excitement and wanting to hear those "four little words". Writing out what you are going to say will help with that moment tremendously.

But a creative and romantic phrasing of this important question can make those words sound to her just as poetic and eternal as anything Shakespeare might write. You can use variations on the simple question that makes it more personal and emotional. Making the question personal with your own phrasing like "I would be the proudest man on earth if you were my wife" are just the thing to make this moment the most romantic one she will ever experience.

You are being smart by starting this early to think about how you want to say those words that will make the love of your life your forever girl. And because you took the time to make sure the words you use will be ones she can cherish in her heart, you are also assuring that even if her answer is just one word, it will be that one word you really want to hear which is "YES".
