The Cure for Worry and Anxiety is Not Found Here!

Mar 25, 2008
There's no doubt that we live in very anxious times - at least that's how you feel after you open the newspaper or listen or watch to any news broadcast. There's always something dreadful going on - not only around the globe, but in your neighborhood as well.

No matter what people's situation is they wonder what is the cure for worry and anxiety as they are plagued with it. For many of us, even though our lives can be quite stable and predictable, it seems that it can change in a blink of an eye.

For many people, unfortunately, the cure for worry and anxiety seems to be all sorts of artificial means. They think these means will calm their nerves and help them to forget their problems. These artificial means are things like drugs, gambling, dangerous sports or the most usual, alcohol.

Alcohol is not the cure for worry and anxiety many people think and hope it is. It can certainly make you feel at the top of the world while you are "buzzed", bit tipsy or totally drunk for a few moments, even few hours at best.

You feel that there are no problems in the world and you may feel a great rush of euphoria. Unfortunately, all this is very short lived. That great buzz wears off very fast and you'll get sober. Then what? The cure for worry and anxiety that you drank the night before has left you and it seems all you are left with are a whole new set of problems you need to deal with.

People who drink regularly are often burdened with other issues that only add to the other concerns. All that money they spend on alcohol is away from other important issues and they can't pay their bills and provide good life for their families.

Many times they say or do stupid things and dangerous things when they are drunk. They might hurt someone. The cure for worry and anxiety they thought was in that bottle has proven to be a false sense of security and well being and usually it makes their situation worse than it was before.

If you're someone overwhelmed with issues and concerns, rather than turn to artificial means, consider seeing a counselor. Many areas offer free mental health and other types of counseling. It may not seem as glamorous as trying to drink your troubles away, but counseling is effective and will not leave you with even worse problems than you started with.
