Dance Through History in Baltimore Maryland

Apr 1, 2008
The history buff is a hard fellow to please when it comes to the vacation getaway every year. This person is generally okay to enjoy all the other attractions that any particular given area provides, but they absolutely must get some history out of it to really enjoy the vacation. This is usually done with a single visit to the local history museum. The history fan always enjoys this, but it just doesn't seem like quite enough. In the historic ciy of Baltimore Maryland, however, there are enough attractions to keep the rest of the group busy, and some of the most historic spots in the world for the history buff. Even at the mention of this city, the history fanatic will instantly know that he or she is in for the vacation experience of their lifetime!

There are far too many historical attractions in Maryland to see in one single week vacation adventure, but this will not daunt the history fan. He or she will know what big events took place here and will have researched the city enough to know just exactly where to get their historical fix! Without a doubt, the first spot on their list of attractions will be the Flag House and Star Spangled Banner Museum.

This place is historic in a manner that many do not even realize. It served for the home of a young lady named Mary Young Pickersgill. Most people who are not big history fans will not recognize the name, but the history buff will. Pickersgill is the young lady that sewed the massive flag that was seen flying over Fort McHenry over two hundred years ago during the War of 1812. This is the very same flag that the renowned Francis Scott Key looked upon as he wrote what is today known as the United States National Anthem.

During your walk through of this historic home, you will wander through many antiques that actually belonged to Mary Young Pickersgill and her family members. You will walk through the same halls that this young lady walked through. You will sit in the same room that this historic flag that now hangs in the Smithsonian Institute was carefully crafted. This is truly the ultimate in history attractions.

While at this particular spot, you will also be led into the area known as the War of 1812 museum. Here you will find actual artifacts from the many battles of that time. There are fired bullets, actual weapons that were used (not reproductions) and more.

The tour guides here are historians themselves, trained as much as humanly possible on this particular area and the artifacts therein. As history buffs, they know how important this journey is to the visitor, and identify with that sudden swelling of patriotic pride in the visitors chest, and event the occasional tear when it comes.

This is merely one of the hundreds of extremely fascinating historical sites to be found in this area. All history buffs realize that Baltimore Maryland is one of the most history filled cities in all the world, and have always dreamed of visiting. Make that dream a reality with a dance through history on your next vacation getaway.
