Kitchen Scissors - Cutting and Chopping Made Easy

Apr 3, 2008
Kitchen scissors are a unique cutting tool designed for many uses in the kitchen. From cutting open packages to cutting chicken bones, kitchen scissors are a must have in every kitchen. Mostly made of durable hard, black plastic, kitchen scissors are sometimes serrated and sometimes straight edged. They are also made of various alloys and stainless steels with a treatment on the outer coating for food protection.

The way the kitchen scissors are designed is quite unique, as they have to meet different needs in the kitchen. One of the more popular designs that allow you to cut at an angle is the one with offset blades. They bring precision to the way you cut. There might be others, which are blunt or may have softened tips.

Choosing Kitchen Scissors -

One must be very careful when picking out a set of kitchen scissors. You must be very certain of the grip, the weight and the feel of it before making a purchase. It is essential that one must handle the scissor personally before buying it because they need to be comfortable in your hand. You must also be careful to buy a separate pair if you are left handed as a scissor made for a right handed man or woman will be very uncomfortable to use. Check your scissors to make sure that there are no nook and crannies for the food to hide inside. These can be very hard to remove later so avoid scissors with nooks and crannies.

The Right Scissors for You -

When you pick sharpened scissors make sure that they cut smoothly through meats including steak, bacon, ham, pork chops, and hot dogs. Make sure that they remain sharp for a maximum amount of time. Even if you are careful in using your kitchen scissors, over a period of time, they lose their sharpness and become blunt. Make sure that you sharpen them at least once every six months. It is also important for you to pick up replacement blades so that if your kitchen scissors have been seriously damaged or bent, the blades can be changed. This saves the time and money to change the entire scissors or buy a new pair. Never leave your scissors in the open, as they can cause injury so you should always keep them in a sheath. Remember do not cut vegetables immediately after you cut meat. This can often cause cross contamination and you might contract an illness because of this. Always wash your scissors before you proceed to cutting vegetables after cutting meat.

Cleaning Your Scissors -

You should be very careful of washing your scissors carefully as they can cause you injury if you are unmindful while washing it. Never run your kitchen scissors through a dishwasher as it can damage your blade and eat away at the handle. You should keep in mind to wash your scissors with hot water and use plenty of soap. Be careful with your hands for injuries, as the scissors are generally sharp. You must always look for crevices where food for bacteria might get tucked away. Remember to dry your blades with a soft, clean cloth after washing.

Use Kitchen Scissors in the Kitchen -

You must always try and avoid the temptation of using the kitchen scissors for cutting paper or any other household object. Do not use them as they reduce the longevity of your kitchen scissors. Keep a different pair of scissors for other household purpose and remember to keep them away from the kitchen scissors to avoid any chances of getting them mixed up. Kitchen scissors are stouter and stronger than paper scissors so you should always look for this difference.

How Kitchen Scissors Are Used -

Remember that your kitchen scissors are a replacement for your knives, which can be very dangerous at times. The following is a list of the things that you can do with your kitchen scissors. Your kitchen scissors can help you chop up fresh herbs, and at the same time help you to chop up almost anything from a can. Now, with your kitchen scissors you do not have to worry about cutting your pizzas in proper shape as you can do this easily with them and at the same time use it for cutting slices of various spices.

Your kitchen scissors are a hundred percent safer than knives that you use in the kitchen and they can make your life in the kitchen a lot easier. With kitchen scissors you do not have to worry about using a cutting board and it can increase your agility in the kitchen. Kitchen scissors can reduce your time by fifty percent and give you a great time cutting and chopping your way through vegetables, meat and anything you wish for.
