Houston for Kids

Apr 3, 2008
There are two major issues that the parents of children who are planning to go on a vacation getaway faces. First, there is the aspect of making sure that the getaway destination has something that will interest the children. All too many popular vacation spots these days seem to have put the family vacationers on the back burner, catering to mostly singles and couples. Secondly, there is the issue of affordability. Most places that do have a great children's attraction or two charge an arm and a leg to simply walk through the front door, not to mention for the rides, attractions, food, and other amenities found within. What does a working parent have to do to find the perfect vacation experience for their children while still maintaining the family budget? The answer is simple really. Just schedule your next vacation getaway in Houston Texas and take your children to the Children's Museum of Houston.

The Children's Museum of Houston has been referred to in the past as the ultimate kids haven. It is a place where the children not only learn a few things, but have a lot of fun in the process. It is the opinion of this fine establishment that children will always remember lessons better if they have fun while learning them. The Children's museum of Houston has done an excellent job in implementing that theory into their exhibits.

An excellent example of this is through the Tales from Gullah Exhibit. Here the children will learn about the Gullah people in West Africa. They will actually get their lessons from tons of fun activities such as crafts, basket weaving, puppet shows, making dolls, painting, drawing, cooking, quilting, and more. The best part is that the children will not be watching as all this is done. Instead, they will actually be taking part in it. They will be the ones making the baskets, cooking the food, and sewing the quilts. All of these teachings are completely interactive and a whole lot of fun for the children.

Then there is the always-popular think tank exhibit. This will teach your children the various processes and results of using logic to solve problems. This fun-filled educational process is achieved through the use of riddles, puzzles, guessing games and hands on exhibits. By the end of this fantastic activity filled room, your child will have a better understanding of the entire problem solving technique and at the same time, have had so much fun that he or she will not even realize that they were actually taking part in a learning process. It is the ultimate teaching technique.

There are over fourteen complete regular exhibits for the children to have hands on fun with for the entire day, along with the occasional monthly exhibits and attractions that come and go For the parents, though, the best aspect of the Children's Museum of History is the price. Your child can get an entire day worth of vacation excitement, fun and knowledge for a single price of five dollars. You won't find a better children's attraction or a better price anywhere in the world.
