The Proper Ways Of Managing A Relationship

Apr 6, 2008
Sometimes, people wonder why relationships fall apart even if there had been great love between two persons during the time they were together. It isn't uncommon to see two people in love but who argue all the time on almost anything, even the most trivial matters.

It takes love to start one, but it takes more than love to keep a relationship going, they say. Love is not the sole foundation of a relationship. Instead, it takes the whole of two persons to make it work at all.

How can we ensure that our relationships with our girlfriends or boyfriends will last a long time and not crumble apart as time passes? Here are some tips to achieve that.

Be Open and Honest to Each Other

Honesty is one of the most important trait to have when entering a relationship. Being honest means everything. It fosters trust between the two of you. In order to be honest, both of you must learn to be open to each other. This also helps you gauge each other's personalities so that you can adjust accordingly.

There are times that a person is honest although he may not be open to his partner. This could stem from several reasons. For example, he may be uncomfortable talking about certain things with the other party. This would be a matter of patience and understanding from the part of the girl, because sometimes it isn't easy to open up about some things at all.

Give and Take is the Way to Go

A relationship is the work of two people, not just one person. This means that both should learn to sacrifice something for the sake of the other if it is for the good of the relationship.

The best example of this is when two lovers are in an argument. Arguments are always heated, and it may be difficult to get some points across because of the tension and heat. Ideally, one party should be cool and levelheaded while the other is too fiery with the heat of the moment. It isn't good to fight fire with fire, after all.

Relationships Are Not All About Happy Moments

A common misconception about relationships especially among young people is that being in a relationship makes way to magical and romantic moments. Although this is partly true, lovers are expected to share not only good times but bad times.

It's normal for relationships to have their downtimes. In fact, these times are the times that test how strong is your resolve and your determination to keep the relationship going. In short, they are just trials.

When this happens, do not be frustrated and give up on your lover. Instead, take the time to work things out with each other. Be patient with each other, and extend some understanding. It is important to accept the fact that nobody's perfect. There are some things that we may look for in other people that cannot be found in our lovers. This should not be a cause of frustration and disillusionment that could potentially lead to a breakup in the future.
