About Stratford-upon-Avon:

Stratford-upon-Avon is a very famous town located in the South Warwickshire, England. Upon-Avon means that the town actually lies on the River called as Avon. The town belongs to the similarly named district; District of Stratford-upon-Avon. According to the population report of 2001, the town had a population of 23,676. This town is considered to be a real tourist spot because of many facts. The town got much popularity because of the fact that it is the birthplace of one of the most admired writer of all time; William Shakespeare. Another interesting fact about Stratford-upon-Avon is that almost 3 millions visitors come here, from all parts of the world, every year. Out of these 3 million people, many use to come to visit the birthplace of William Shakespeare. The town provides excellent landscape views as well since it is set in the countryside; Warwickshire.

Attractions of Stratford-upon-Avon

The birthplace of William Shakespeare; Stratford-upon-Avon warmly welcomes all its visitor; almost 3 million visitors per year. It is considered to be a fantastic tourist spot in UK. The access to Stratford-upon-Avon is quite easy from either bus, train or your car. If you are having a short break during your busy work, then this is the ideal place for you to be. Stratford-upon-Avon usually conducts many exciting events for its visitors like art events, music events, theatres, racing etc. There are many attractions in Stratford-upon-Avon, some of the most interesting attractions are:

Halls Croft:

Named after Dr. John Hall, the Halls Croft is a really attractive 16th Century house that includes exciting paintings and furniture. Dr. John Hall was married to Susanna; the daughter of William Shakespeare. The Hall will take you to the time of William Shakespeare. The Hall is open for all the days of the year except from 23-26 of December.

Anne Hathaway Cottage:

This cottage is one of the most famous cottages in the world. It is the childhood home of the wife of Shakespeare. It was owned by the descendants of the Anne Hathaway until the 19th Century. An interesting fact about the cottage is that it still houses the original Anne Hathaway Bed. If you go outside the cottage, you will find a beautiful garden with trees and a beautiful sculpture. Similar to the Halls Croft, the cottage is only closed during 23-26 December.
River Avon:

If you come at Stratford-upon-Avon then you must visit the river Avon, because of which the town got its name. You can go for a boat trip to get closer to this wonderful river or you can walk beside it. You walk beside this river or you take a boat trip, you will certainly see many worth seeing sights in both cases. You may also find many live entertainers from the Royal Shakespeare Theatre near the river.

Shakespeare's Birthplace:

Shakespeare's Birthplace is probably the most visited place of the town of Stratford-upon-Avon. He was born in 1564 in the half-timbered house and the house was owned by the family until the 19th century. The house gives an insight of the life of William Shakespeare from his childhood. The house also contains Shakespeare exhibition which gives complete information about the work of William Shakespeare. The house contains a beautiful garden and it is open for all the days of the work except 23-26 of December.
