Patio Chairs - Picking The Right Ones Is Easy

Apr 8, 2008
Spring has sprung and that means it's about time to start entertaining in the backyard. If you don't have an entertaining area set up in your yard, you may think creating this kind of space is a project that's too big for you. It's not as long as you take the job step by step.

Get the Picture

Come up with what you want from the big picture. Decide what you need to make out of this space and how many patio chairs and tables you are going to need to fill it. Are you planning on putting in a bar or grill? How will your patio furniture fit around these larger items?

Once you have a good picture of what you want in your head, you can start to choose the patio chairs and other items you will need to complete the look.

Seating Space

Whether it's Adirondack chairs or wicker sofas, you need to make sure you have enough seating space for the number of guests you are likely going to have over for your soirees.

If you are only planning to entertain your family or a few friends, you have plenty of space to work with. But, the more people you regularly entertain, the more carefully you will have to put together a seating plan.

How you create this seating will depend on how much space you have to work with. The smaller the space you are filling, the more careful you have to be about choosing the patio chairs that will fit the bill.

Once you know where the furniture is going to go, and what kinds of furniture you need, it's time to go shopping.

Get to know the materials that the patio chairs you are looking at are made of. Are they water resistant? Will they put up with the abuse of the weather in your area? How hard will they be to clean once they start getting dirty from sitting outside all the time? There should be care instructions attached to the furniture that will give you a good idea of what it will take to keep them in great condition.

You should also look more carefully at the warranties and guarantees that come with the patio chairs. If these chairs were built to stand up to the elements, they should have a guarantee or warranty to back up that claim.

Another important thing to keep in mind is your budget. It is very easy to get into the purchasing of patio furniture and not look at the price tag. If you end up falling in love with a set of expensive chairs, you may be heartbroken to find out they are out of your price range. This is especially true if you are going to need a large number of chairs, as the more there are, the faster the total price multiplies.

Once you find the right patio chairs, tables and other items, for your backyard entertaining space, start putting them in place. Then kick back and enjoy the fruits of your labor.
