How To Get Your Ex Back - Why A Cooling Off Period Is Necessary

Apr 9, 2008
If you have been reading articles and looking for information about how to get your ex back you have probably encountered the advice to take a "cooling off" period which can last a month or longer.

So why is this such an important step if you are serious about wanting to get back together with your ex boyfriend or ex girlfriend?

Taking a time out from the relationship right now will allow you to get a better handle on your emotions and ride out the panicky, desperate feelings you could be experiencing.

It's critical that you give yourself time to heal from the intense emotions that can surround a break up. You might still be raw from the experience and this can make it much more difficult to avoid the big blunders that will hurt your chances of getting back together with your ex.

If you take a needed step back it will also give you a chance to analyze what went wrong with the relationship so you know what you need to change, which is necessary if you are going to be smart about getting your ex back.

Now you might be afraid that if you don't do something soon, if you don't show your ex lover how much you care as soon as possible - it might be too late to ever recover. The truth is this will only upset your ex more.

So while your initial reaction may be to keep in constant contact, it will only make things worse instead of better. I'm sure you've heard the phrase "absence makes the heart grow fonder." If you want to get back with your ex you need to give them time to miss you, and how can they miss you if you won't leave them alone?

And even if your ex girlfriend or boyfriend ends up in a rebound relationship the majority of them fail and if you are biding your time and doing things right this will only put the odds even more in your favor when the time is right for you to make your move.

You want your ex to feel like you respect them, that you understand their concerns, and begin to miss you. Taking a real break allows all of these things to happen. Giving your ex the room they need to breath right now also helps you to appear more mature, calm, and collected, even if you aren't there yet, and these are all attractive qualities in a mate. And it will be much easier to reopen healthy lines of communication when there's been some time and distance between you both.

So use this cooling off period to get your emotions back together and begin working on the areas you need to change and this will give you the advantage when it's time to start working on a smarter strategy for getting your ex girlfriend or ex boyfriend back.
