Arkansas Home Insurance -- Try These If You Want To Pay Less

Apr 10, 2008
Arkansas home insurance: If you must get big discounts, then you must NOT miss certain things. I'll show you a good number of them here...

1. Do not buy a house without getting a CLUE (comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) report if you are determined to save on home insurance. This report will reveal things that could cost you in insurance.

If a house is in a town that has only a volunteer fire service, you will attract more expensive rates. Furthermore, the distance of a home to the nearest fire hydrant is a factor in calculating home insurance rates as well as how near it is to a police station.

Obtain such vital details before paying for a house. The little savings you made on a home purchase might become insignificant when compared to the premiums you'll pay in a few years.

2. A household that has a smoker or smokers will pay more expensive premiums. With over 23,000 residential fires annually being results of smoking, you will agree that it's really a serious

You'll pay less in home insurance if no member of your household smokes. For those who smoke, note that you're entitled to a downward review in your rate once you've quit smoking for over 12 months.

What if your insurance company refuses to give you discounts because some companies don't give non-smokers discounts? Then it is time to shop for an insurance company who does unless you get something else to make your continued stay with such an insurance company worthwhile.

3. You will lower your home insurance premium by up to 15% if you change to modern heating, electrical and plumbing systems. For instance, the old school fire place may be more romantic but it's nevertheless not as safe as a modern heating system.

Strides have been made in house building technology. Make good use of them as they'll not only lower your home insurance rates but increase the value of your property in several cases.

4. Many policyholders do not know half the discounts that are available to them with their insurance provider. So how do you take advantage of them if you don't know about them?

Tell your home insurance agent to tell you every discount possible and what you can do to benefit from them. More often than not, you will be pleasantly surprised at the amount you'll save with unadvertised discounts.

5. Although you've the choice of insuring against all imaginable peril, you actually don't need to. There are perils that are very unlikely in some areas. Different states have perils that have high chances of occurring and those that are almost impossible.

It is really a smart move to buy coverage for any peril that has a reasonable chance of occurring. But at the same time, buying coverage for a peril that has no chance of occurring doesn't make sense.

Choosing the right perils will make you buy only coverage you need. This will result in savings if you had excess coverage in the past.

6. A neighborhood watch will make your neighborhood safer and thus help you get more affordable rates. Don't forget to inform your agent if your neighborhood has such and you could get a well-deserved discount.

And, if you do not have one, discuss with your neighbors about starting one. Everyone in your community stands to benefit as this will lower their home insurance premiums.

7. Does your home have fire escapes? Do not fail to let your agent know about this or you might miss the discount you rightly deserve.

Even if all you have are simple rope ladders for the upper rooms, you still could get some discounts. Make sure you have a fire escape unless you do not want to benefit from this savings opportunity. In order to guarantee savings, ask your agent what your insurer considers the right fire escape.

8. While you take other steps to reduce your home premium, here's what to do to receive lower rates now. Visit reputable a minimum of five insurance quotes sites and obtain quotes. Compare returned quotes and choose whichever gives you the best price/value.
