Volkswagen History and VW Aircooled Parts (part I)

Apr 15, 2008
The brand Volkswagen is perhaps the top recognized, selling and driven cars the world has ever known. A German made car with a name that translates to, peoples car, was first made in 1936 by a man whose last name may be familiar: Ferdinand Porsche. In the year 1934, Ferdinand Porsche was contacted by a powerful man, one not so popular with people, one most heinous dictators of all time, Adolph Hitler.

Hitler requested that Porsche build a car unlike any the world had seen. It might be that along with Hitler's fantasy to control all the people of the world, to control the cars which the people drive would ultimately set him apart form other tyrannical types. Sure enough, although Hitler remains to be a favorable historical character, he did in fact play an important role in the origins of Porsche's car, which later went on to be called the Beetle, a vehicle also crowned 'the best selling car of all time. Officially called the Type 1, the Beetle was followed several years later by the Type 2, or VW Bus.

Over the years and despite the discontinued nature of some of these cars, including the sporty Carmengia, the accessibly of VW parts, particularly VW aircooled parts, are in large part responsible for the continued interest and popularity of the vehicle. The VW Bus is still a commonly driven vehicle, especially among outdoorsy types such as surfers, campers and even, simply, leisure drivers.

With hobbies such as leisure driving comes the responsibility of maintaining ones vehicle. Because VW parts are readily available via internet shopping sites and more traditional car exchange and motor shops, Volkswagen restoration parts have become not just a tool for keeping VW aircooled parts functioning and safe, but fixing these cars is also part of the enjoyable hobby of owning one such classic machine.
VW aircooled parts are written about in several books regarding the upkeep, restoration and leisure driving promotion of your VW bus.

VW parts make up an engine that has maintained an easy to work on reputation. All things considered, the VW bus is ultimately a symbol of the counterculture of the 1960s, likely resulting in several depictions of the car in some very popular films, such as Magnum Force, the second Dirty Harry film, where a VW Bus is t-boned by Clint Eastwood, who drives a 1972 Ford Galaxie 500, which ultimately blows up by the films end.
