The Legitimacy Of Online Home Businesses

Apr 15, 2008
Is it possible to find a legitimate home based business opportunity online? This question is foremost on the minds of people who want a career using their computer at home. These opportunities are very helpful to those at home, either to watch children or those disabled, allowing them to make money without a 9 to 5 job.

Because there are so many people out there looking for such an opportunity, many online businesses have developed ways of getting the best workers at home. Here are some things to think about before looking for such opportunities for yourself:

Review the 'About us', section of the website offering home based business opportunities thoroughly for information on their location, address, investors, references, industry recognitions etc. If you have a friend who lives nearby the business address, you might ask them to do a quick check on them.

Also, it is important to find out the method of payment from a company prior to working. A company with an escrow account ensures that both parties will be treated fairly and you will get paid for doing the work that was agreed on prior by both sides.

The third factor that will help you decide whether the online business is legitimate or not, is the amount of information that they require you to submit about yourself and your work including statement of intent, references and work samples. Good business providers require you to complete all information before you start working for them.

The fourth thing is to check out the methods of communication between the business and workers and amongst the workers themselves. A good online business will have forums or mail groups that allow communication between the workers to share experiences and tips as well as provide a way for workers to provide feedback to the employer.

Another thing to keep an eye out for is if advance deposits are required of you from the business provider. A legitimate business will not ask for money from you in advance unless the business is providing something in return for the start up cost, such as educational materials or information.

Finally, before dedicating a massive chunk of your time for an online business opportunity, sign in for a small number of hours initially and monitor the payment patterns of the business. You can increase your commitment as you develop confidence in the business provider. If you follow all these pointers you will have done your due diligence and avoided the scams.
