Why You Should Visit Orlando, Florida

Apr 18, 2008
As an Orlando vacation devotee, I can recommend all of the theme parks, but did you know the area is brimming with other excellent visitor attractions without a roller coaster in sight. Orlando city has a wide range of sights, places to eat with many of these available along International Drive where it is possible to park the car and take a stroll. Whilst many people that visit are first timers, more are returning for their second, third or more time as there is always something new to see.

Orlando is a warm and welcoming place that enjoys looking after people with its many shopping malls, restaurants, clubs and bars. The city has its own charming identity and attractions but the majority of people taking an Orlando vacation arrive here in order to visit possibly the happiest place on earth.

If you are an animal lover then you must visit the Central Florida Zoological Park in Sanford which was opened to the public in 1975 and houses a collection of over 400 hundred animals. It is actually a privately owned charitable group dedicated to the protection of exotic animals plus species that are native to Florida but also offers informative and child-friendly classes and events.

Back in 1942, the Morse Museum of American Art in Winter Park started exhibiting the world's most extensive collection of the works of Louis Comfort Tiffany. The collection is the most comprehensive anywhere with Tiffany jewelry, art glass, ornaments, pottery, paintings and leaded glass.

Whilst Orlando may appear on the surface to be a town designed for the entertainment of children that could not be farther from the truth with adults equally well looked after. For the young at heart, Orlando vacations aim to please with extensive evening venues including music and dance at Disney's incredible Pleasure Island and Universals version, City walk, to name just a couple of places.

Another great place to visit about twenty minutes drive from Orlando Airport is The Orlando Science Center, originating back to 1955; it is a huge complex with over two hundred thousand square feet of exhibition space spanning ten halls. If your preference is in railways then the International Trolley and Train Museum on International drive will be a pleasant surprise with 14 trains running continuously and three waterfalls in a space of about 4,000 square feet.

On International Drive there is the Mercado Center which is the home to the wonderfully moving, sad and at times eerie Titanic exhibition which actually displays a number of original items from the great ship. A quieter more relaxing time can be found within the grounds of Lake Eola Park where you can enjoy over forty three acres of wonderful parkland which includes a boating lake for the more energetic.

However, there aren't that many visitors who visit Orlando without a trip to one of the four main Disney theme parks or the equally impressive Universal studios; where a person's age really doesn't matter. An Orlando vacation has enough tourist attractions to last a year so the next time you visit, why not try one or two of the others; they may be less well known but can be just as impressive.
