Finding What Causes the Ringing in Your Ears

Apr 21, 2008
Ringing in your ears is most commonly thought to be a result of listen to loud music or other similar type activity. The ringing in ears experienced by many people is distracting and sometimes debilitating. However, did you know something as simple as stress is a leading cause of ringing in ears?

In its most common form, the ringing in ears is only heard by the individual affected. This is known as subjective tinnitus. Millions of people are impacted by subjective tinnitus every year and this form of tinnitus is generally treatable at home. A much more rare and more serious tinnitus is known as objective tinnitus. This is where others can also hear a ringing coming from your ears. Objective tinnitus can be a sign of more serious problems and should be handled by professionals.

Interestingly, high stress levels, commonly linked with high blood pressure, is a common cause of ringing in ears. High blood pressure is a direct result if increased stress levels. Elevated blood pressure cause by stress cause blood flow to become more difficult and stressed, thus leading to the ringing noise in your ears. Reducing your blood pressure and stress levels will help prevent and stop tinnitus.

An effective and common way to cure tinnitus by reducing your blood pressure and stress is by changing your diet and exercise habits. Regular exercise is known to reduce your blood pressure and stress levels. Making smarting diet choices, such as watching red meat intake, will also reduce your blood pressure levels and lessen the stress on your blood vessels that can cause the ringing in your ears.

Obviously, smokers are at an even higher risk for tinnitus and ringing in ears. Common knowledge is that smoking is a leading cause of high blood pressure and increased stress levels. In addition to the other long term health issues with smoking, the increased stress levels can lead to tinnitus. Stopping smoking will help reduce blood pressure and stress levels and help control tinnitus.

Historically, most people consider ringing in ears to be the result of loud music or noise. Keep in mind, though, that tinnitus can occur for a variety of factors, including stress and high blood pressure. Making simple lifestyle changes can help cure your tinnitus.
