Tattoo Shops What To Look For

Apr 24, 2008
If you live in a town of over forty thousand people, more than likely you have a choice of at least three tattoo shops to pick from. Because of the rising interest in body art and the human need to stand-out, just a little from the sea of humanity, the numbers of tattoo parlors opening has skyrocketed.

But there is a definite difference between just any shop and a truly great shop. This is defiantly one decision that you do not want to go with the lowest price available. It more than pays to be well informed and know the difference between the many types of shops.

The really great tattoo parlors follow a strict set of guidelines regulating their sanitary conditions. All blood born pathogens and instruments must be disposed of properly as required by the U.S. Department of Health. The owners of tattoo shops are responsible for making sure each tattoo station is kept in a sanitary condition. Each artist should display their up to date licenses in a prominent spot.

Remember the old saying "you get what you pay for" well when it comes to getting inked it could not be truer. A really great tattoo parlor will offer fantastic designs not available elsewhere, but the comforting knowledge that the place is sanitary and your safety is their number one concern is truly the mark of a professionally run business you can feel good about trusting. They are usually dressed very casually, but one look around will tell you their hygienic practices.

When you decide to get a tattoo there are a few things to keep in mind. The first is deciding on which tattoo reflects your personal taste and desire yet is not the latest fad. Remember: fads and trends come and go. The tattoo is there for life unless it has to be cosmetically removed.

poor sanitary conditions found in many tattoo shops are responsible for a common affliction called Hepatitis C. Used needles can carry this blood born pathogen. Believe it or not there have been estimations that commercial tattoo shops were responsible for more infections than intravenous drug users. The news gets worse as more people get tattoo's the infection rate is climbing.

You should pick a shop in a safe area. Sanitary conditions are easier to maintain in a clean safe environment. A smart way to think of it is would you feel safe walking down the street. If you need company to get in to the shop how safe are you going to be with their needle stuck in your skin. If the tattoo shop owner does not care about the neighborhood their shop is located in, how much do they care about you. Exceptions do happen so do some investigating.

There is more to a good tattoo shop than a talented artist and a tattoo gun. Any business has to spend a lot of time to build a good reputation, but in the body art business word of mouth is everything. It can take hundreds of great tattoo's to gain a good reputation, but just one customer with a bad infection can ruin a business. The successful tattoo shops know this and strive to keep you safe and healthy.
