Best Humidifiers For Your Home

Apr 26, 2008
Humidifier is a simple appliance to help you balance moisture in your house.

If you or anyone in your family is suffering from scratchy throats, severe asthma attacks or aggravated allergies you are living in a house that has overly dry air. Not only does it affect our health but the house as well, paints and plasters can easily chipped and wood floors or furniture can split or cracked. This is also true for wood trim and moldings giving us more problems than we have imagined.

In summer months, we usually turn on the air conditioner to help us bear the sweltering heat and in the winter months we turn up the temperature to keep us warm. Both scenarios lead to overly dry air promoting the growth of bacteria and other viruses that causes infections and diseases.

The right humidity level for the whole house should be between 30 to 50 percent in the winter and 40 to 50 percent during summer. Anything less will cause problems not only to our health but also to our house condition. You don't like your children getting sick and uncomfortable and you don't want your house to get unnecessary repairs when you can prolong their lifespan.

To answer the problem of overly dry air, all you need is to install a humidifier in your house to achieve balance. This simple device is irreplaceable with any daily activities we may think that would help bring moisture back into the house, like cooking, taking a shower, and doing laundry. The moisture will simply be not enough to make our house comfortable.

A home humidifier can either be used to balance moisture in one room or even the entire household; it will entirely depend on your choice of humidifier. Room-size humidifiers are generally known as "tabletop" units. The water output of this device is just enough to serve a single room. They are more affordable and can be move from one room to another to maximize usage. It's easy to hook up but must be filled manually on a daily a basis.

Console humidifier can handle larger square footage than tabletop models, a small console has an output of eight gallons and can humidify up to 2,000 square foot area. While a large console has an output of 14 gallons to handle 3,250 square foot house, both tabletops and console are easy to install and relatively cheaper.

Another type is central evaporative humidifier. These models are hooked up to the house heating equipment. Water is piped directly to them, so you don't need to fill them manually; they are out of sight and needs very little intervention from you to make them work. To make central humidifier work however, you are required to have a forced-air system to make.

Remember that you have to balance moisture in your home to make it comfortable for everyone, and whatever type or model of humidifier you choose will greatly vary depending on your needs and your budget. You can search the Internet for many humidifier products to help you choose best one that will work for you and your family.
