Eat Healthy Organics If You Want To Live Well!

Apr 27, 2008
Organic food is grown according to definite legally regulated principles. For crops, it means they were developed and planted without the use of fake fertilizers or sewage sludge, conformist pesticides, and more importantly they were developed without food additives or ionizing radiation. All organic food is produced with no use of genetically modified organisms.

What is organic food? Organic food is produced by farmers who give emphasis to the use of renewable resources and the preservation of soil and water to augment environmental quality for future generations. Organic meat, poultry, eggs, and dairy products come from animals that are specified no antibiotics or growth hormones. Organic food is produced devoid of using most conventional pesticides; fertilizers prepared with artificial ingredients or sewage sludge; bioengineering; or ionizing radiation.

Previous to a product being marked "organic," a Government-approved certifier examines the farm where the food is cultivated to make in no doubt the farmer is following each and every one of the rules required to meet USDA organic standards. A company that touches or process organic food prior to getting to your local supermarket or restaurant must be required to be certified, too.

Is organic food better for me and my family? USDA makes no declaration that organically produced food is safer or more nutritious than conventionally produced food. Organic food is definitely different from conventionally produced food in the way it is grown, handled, and processed. They only certified whether it is organic and meet the requirements to be labeled as such.

When I go to the supermarket, how can I tell organically produced food from conventionally produced food? You have to look at the package labels and look for signs in the supermarket. Including the national organic standards, USDA developed stringent labeling rules to help consumers recognize the precise organic content of the food they buy. The USDA Organic seal also informs you that a product is at least 95 percent organic.

USDA's National Organic Program comprises the standards for organics in the United States. Congress approved the Organic Foods Production Act (OFPA) of 1990. The OFPA mandated the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to expand national standards for organically produced agricultural products to guarantee consumers that agricultural products sold as organic meet dependable, uniform standards. The OFPA and the National Organic Program (NOP) policies and regulations necessitate that agricultural products labeled as organic must derive from farms or handling operations certified by a State or private entity that has been accredited by USDA.

The NOP is a marketing program dwelling within the USDA Agricultural Marketing Service. Neither the OFPA nor the NOP regulations address food safety or nutrition.

The range of organic products is not just limited to organic foods. Organic cotton and organic coffee are two of the largest groups of organics that people are very interested in. Organic health supplements are a huge market area ranging from vitamins to hair care products. Using organics is a healthy lifestyle as well as good for the environment.
