10 Tips for Making Business Travel Hassle Free

Apr 29, 2008
I have put together some tips to make travelling less stressful for the seasoned voyager.

1. Choose your method of travel wisely.

Which method of transport you choose is dependant on a number of different factors. Long trips should be taken by airplane, of course, but what about the shorter ones? Maybe a train or bus would be more suitable? Which ever you choose the are thing you should consider, like the time it takes travelling to and from the airport as well as time spent waiting in checkin. The can be deciding factor also. The last thing you want to hear is that your flight is delayed due to poor weather.

2. It may be easier to fly from an alternative airport. The same can be said for you destination airport. It's not unusual for smaller airports within the same city or area to be less congested and have less delays.

3. Print of Copies of Destiantion Maps

Travel is less stressful if you know how to get around. Before leaving home, obtain maps of your destination city. One approach is to visit web sites such as City Search (http://www.citysearch.com/) and print out maps. Place your printed maps in plastic folders for protection against the elements. Trying to read a road map while standing on a rainy street corner has its obvious disadvantages.

4. Avoid Carrying Hard Copy

Instead of lugging around great big stacks of brochures or sales letters, you can load copies on to discs or portbale USB HardDrives and simply get them printed at you destination. Also, if you are travelling to a trade show, or presentation, you can have extra copies made incase you run out.

5. Inform you Cellular Company that You are Travelling

Mobile phone companies regularly offer new rates. Check with your company to be sure you're getting the best deal -- some now include long distance charges in the monthly fee. If your business travel will take you to small, out-of-the way towns, your digital phone might not work. You will need an analogue or dual digital/analogue phone for such trips.

6. Find Hotels that Cater to Business Travellers

This is important if you require certain facilities such as internet access and business machine like photocopiers or faxes.

7. Don't Forget Your Electric Adaptors

If you're travelling to a foreign country, remember that you might need special voltage adaptors for electricity. You might also need plug adapters to accommodate both electrical plugs and telephone jacks. A good travel store will be able to help you decide what's needed.

8. Use a Calling Card

Instead of run up a large phone bill with the chats with family and friends you could use a prepaid phone card as this can be a much cheaper method.

9. Get an Interantional Driving Licence

If you are travelling overseas, it is a good idea to get aan international drivers licence as it may be accepted in far more countries that you own own one. This shouldn't be hard to obtain and just require you to shpw your current licence. Your locall AA should be able to supply more information for you.

10. Protect Yourself Against Theft

Photocopy all of your important documents and leave the copies with someone you trust at home. When packing electrical equipment such as laptops or cell phones, try and do it in a way that disguises what they are. You can get laptop bags that do this. Another thing is to NEVER put important documents in outside jacket of trouser pockets.
