May 2, 2008
OF all of the different poker chips sets out there, it can be hard to decide which ones to go with. Whether you are doing some poker chip shopping for somebody in your life who you know will appreciate a good set of chips or you are looking to get your very first set of poker chips, you should know that poke chip shopping is not as hard as it looks.

While they are not the whole center of the game, poker chips are handled more than anything else in a good game of cards. They can boost a person's confidence just by looking at them, and give the enticement of real money before any green currency ever hits the table.

In order to be successful in your efforts to decipher between poker chips sets, it is important to know that there is more than one type of poker chip out there. Mainly, there are casino grade poker chips sets and tournament grade poker chips sets. Depending on what you plan on using your chips for and how often they are going to be used, one or the other should do just fine for your use. Really, it is a matter of deciding between just these basic two types.

Casino Poker Chips Sets

Casino chips are one of the more popular of all of the poker chips sets out there. Think about the chips that you have seen in a casino; what did they look like? They were glossy and brilliant in color. The lettering was probably gold or silver and very vibrant, and while they were solid they probably were not heavy at all.

Casino chips like this are designed to attract high end clientele. IF it shines, they will come--at least that is what the casinos think. If you plan on using your poker chips sets purely for entertainment purposes and don't mind having multiple sets of chips, than a casino chips set may be the way to go.

Clay Poker Chips Sets Made for Tournaments

Tournament poker chips sets are another type of poker chip, one that is more commonly purchased for people who play on a regular basis. Clay poker chips sets are more durable and much heavier. The standard ones way anywhere from 10 to 15 grams each, and are certainly designed for hard play. People slam chips down and skirt them across the table when angry; this may be okay the first few times, but a good set of chips should be able to hold up to the way a person and their friends play poker--and clay chips can do that.

Deciding between the different kinds of poker chips sets out there can be a bit disheartening. There are so many ways that a person can go about shopping for chips, but when there are so many to choose from it is all too easy to get lost in the shuffle--especially for a poker novice or someone just gift shopping.

Now that you know the difference between the two major types that you will find, the process of shopping for chips sets should be made that much easier--if not, the package usually has some indication of which is best for whose use.
