How To Anchor Yourself To Resourceful States!

May 6, 2008
Are you ready to anchor yourself for success? Great! I want you to choose 5 resource states you would like to access in different situations in your life. For example, if you gave public presentations and always felt nervous before going up, you may want to create an anchor that fires off a state of confidence or maybe even a state of calm so that you can go up there and deliver a great speech.

So, take some time, grab a piece of paper and a pen, write down 5 resource states you can use in the different situations in your life, for example, in your career, in the area of sports, for example, in the area of study if you are a student.

What are the five resource states? It could be confidence, it could be love, it could be motivation, it could be power, it could be a sense of calm, it could be even relaxation. And next to your states, I want you to think of and write down? What anchors you would want to use to fire off these states?

Again, you could use a visual anchor. In other words, seeing something in your mind will fire off that anchor. It could be something that you hear, something that you say to yourself, or it could even be a piece of music which you want to use.

You can also use kinesthetic anchor, for example touching yourself in a certain way, touching your shoulder, or it could be snapping your fingers, you could be clapping your hands or you could be making a power move. If you really have that state anchored to a particular music, for example, hearing Rocky already makes you feel motivated, you could just utilize that anchor. Just imagine the first resource state you want to anchor in yourself is motivation.

So we are going to use that as an example and we are going to anchor that within you. Are you ready? So, what I want you to do is this. Put your stuff down and I want you to really play with me. So, stand up and let us go through the four steps to install your first resource anchor. So, step one, get into an intense fully associated state.

So, stand up and I want you to stand the way you are standing as if when you were really motivated. Think about a time in your past when you were extremely motivated to do something. It could be doing anything. It could be going out to play golf, it could be reading a book, it could be starting on a project.

So, go back to that time and put yourself in the same physiology. Stand the way you were standing if you felt totally motivated. Breathe the way you were breathing if you felt totally motivated. And have that look in your face and the focus in your eyes if you felt totally motivated.

Say to yourself what you would say in your mind if you felt totally motivated. Have the same tension in your muscles. And as you think of the time you were totally motivated in the past, I want you to make it associated.

Make it bigger, make it brighter, make the sounds louder. Use your driver submodalities to intensify the feelings 5 times, 10 times, 15 times. Great! Now, once you get to the peak of this motivated state, I want you to fire off your anchor.

So, the minute you feel at the peak, you can snap your fingers and say, or you can make a certain power move, by clapping your hands. So, I want you to do this and repeat it about 5 to 10 times. Ready? So, go back into that motivated state.

Stand the way you were standing, breathe the way you were breathing, see the picture in your mind of the time you felt motivated. Take that feeling in your body and increase it by 5 times, increase it by 10 times, increase it by 15 times, and when you are at the peak of that state, fire your anchor.

Great! And once you have done this, repeat the process again. Again get into the physiology of motivation, breathe the same way, have the same focus in your eyes, say to yourself what you would say when you are motivated, see that picture in your mind. Associate into the picture, make it bigger, make it brighter, make it into a movie.

Take the feeling inside your body where it is most intense and increase it by 5 times, increase it by 10 times, increase it by 15 times, and then at the peak, fire off your anchor. As you fire off the anchor, feel the great feelings as you hold on to that anchor. Hold on to a few seconds. As you hold on for a while, you can let go and repeat the process again.

That is right! Repeat the process again. And repeat it about 5 to 10 times. And once you have done it, I want you to now, test the anchor. So, how do you test the anchor? Get into a neutral state. And the minute you get into a neutral state, test the anchor by firing off the anchor.

You snap your fingers and say "Yes"! Does that put you into the same intense state of motivation? So, the minute you have this anchor installed, you know that every time you feel procrastination in doing something, you know that you can get back into this motivated state by just snapping your fingers and say "Yes!"

Anytime you feel stalled, anytime you feel powerless, anytime you need to make that phone call, anytime you need to go on that stage, anytime you need to start on a project, just snap your fingers and say "Yes!". And again, the more you do this, the more consistent you become, the more powerful the anchor will be ingrained in your nervous system.
