The Connection Between Alcohol and Snoring

May 7, 2008
It's enjoyable to stop at the club with friends after a day at work. It presents you an opportunity to relax and let loose over a few drinks before going home to bed. That pit-stop at the club could be costing you much more than you think. It could be the reason your waking up tired in the morning, and the cause of your snoring problems.

Alcohol can be a cause of snoring. By taking of a drink or two you are setting yourself up for snoring problems. Why? When we drink our bodies become relaxed, this includes the muscles of the throat. Often when a person has drank they fall into a very deep relaxed sleep; which can result in very loud snoring. If you've ever been at a party or social gathering where someone has consumed too much alcohol and fallen asleep, you know what I am talking about.

To stop the snoring they must realize their drinking is only adding to their snoring problem. For an individual in a relationship, their significant other will gripe enough about the snoring that no other reminder will be needed. As for others, they may end up waking themselves up. This might happen if the snoring is very loud and the individual is sleeping restlessly. They'll suddenly find themselves awake wondering what happened. What has occurred is their snoring has disturbed them enough to a waken themselves. It's extremely hard to know this yourself ,because how do we listen to ourselves snore as we sleep, especially in a deep sleep from the effects of consuming alcohol.

Another approach to stopping your snoring when it's brought on by drinking is to eat more while you drink. Eating while drinking will help you to absorb less of the alcohol . For someone who snores because of alcohol this can be very significant, it allows them to drink while at the same time, their sleep won't be too deeply affected by snoring.

The easiest way to remedy snoring that is caused by alcohol consumption is to either drink less or in some cases, not drink liquor at all. or another alternative might be to switch to another type of drink. certain beverages contain a higher percentage of alcohol than others. As an example, If you are snoring because you've been drinking a few glasses of wine, switching to beer might greatly improve the situation.

If snoring is a result of that beer that you have with your supper, it could be time to change to a soda or spring water. Weighing the enjoyment of the beer against the prospect of stopping your snoring problem is a private choice.
