Use Multiple Senses to Teach and Learn about Network Marketing

May 14, 2008
When anyone starts their network marketing career, saying there is a lot to learn is an understatement.

There are many of training calls to be on, large company training events to attend, and an uncountable number of smaller meetings. In addition, the amount of reading and audio listening one will need to do to achieve mastery is a colossal task.

Learning often has a sour taste in many people's minds. This is because most people associate learning with only one or maybe two teaching styles that did not suit their preferences.

Without getting metaphysical, there are 5 senses you currently use to take in all information.

1. Through your eyes
2. Through your ears
3. Through your mouth
4. Through your nose
5. Through your touch

In regards to learning and teaching, unless we are dealing with culinary arts, chemistry, or certain other fields we can safely take out the senses of smell and taste.

This leaves us with three main senses for taking in information, through seeing, through hearing, and through touching and/or physically experiencing.

You may have one preferred way of learning information, and there are many tests throughout the internet for you to explore which type of learner you are primarily. Many studies have been done in this arena, and results have been available for a long time.

35% of people are Visual learners

25% of people are Auditory learners

40% of people are physical or kinesthetic learners

These are primary learning preferences, no one only learns from only one primary learning style, it is only from where they learn the best. In order to maximize our learning potential and maximize our memory retention it is important to utilize all three senses and be aware as to what is our primary learning style.

For example, this is important information for all teachers to know. Teachers usually teach in their preferred learning style, or quite possibly they teach in their teacher's preferred learning style. If this is the typical class room situation composed of a teacher in the front of the room speaking, and relying on the kids to listen and memorize, you can see how this method only applies to the primary learning style of 25% of the kids in the class. Is it strange that some kids are not paying attention? Is it strange that some of the kids do not understand the lessons?

As kids start feeling like they are not learning, or if they are receiving sub-par grades they are often discouraged. Most parents do not understand why their kids are not doing as well as other kids, and pressure comes down harder on the kids. The kids often become stressed, and having a mental state of stress is one of the worst mental states for learning.

An interesting study was done that showed that 4 out of 5 kids were confident in their learning abilities around their pre-school ages. This is where many senses are being used to teach and learn subjects. Once the "real" school begins, most teachers unfortunately do not teach with multiple learning styles in mind. The study goes on to describe that by age 16 only 1 out of 5 kids were confident of their ability to learn.

As an adult it is difficult to influence how the information we learn is being given to us. There are fortunately many things that we can do to raise awareness, create multi sensory practices, and utilize our personal primary learning style to ingrain the information given to us.

If you are a visual learner, it will help you to see the information, to read it, and to imagine it in your mind.

If you are an auditory learner, it will help you to ask many questions, listen to audio CD's about the subject, and read it out loud to yourself.

If you are a kinesthetic learner, it will help you to get hands on practice, create a walk through, create tests and take them or give them to a peer.

Everything in network marketing duplicates, and if you learn to become an accelerated learner and share the information with your downline, they will also become accelerated learners.

Your organization will soar if you take action into becoming an accelerated learner.
