Why Businesses Need To Give Special Attention To Six Sigma Training

The thing that makes Six Sigma training all the more necessary is the fact that such unawareness often extends all the way up to the middle and top management and is not necessarily restricted to the lower levels of the organizational hierarchy.

Lack of proper Six Sigma training can severely restrict the understanding of organizational members, something that will make it quite difficult for the business to carry out the planned Six Sigma implementations.

Explained below are some more reasons that make it necessary for businesses to give special attention to Six Sigma training.

Employees Normally Resist Change

Humans have the general tendency to resist change and employees of a business organization are no different. It has often been noticed that when word about Six Sigma gets out, a significant percentage of employees start feeling uncomfortable, thinking that they will be required to shoulder more responsibilities. Some employees even start thinking that they might lose their jobs after the implementation is over.

All these factors eventually affect employee performance, something that is quite undesirable, especially when the business is in the process of implementing Six Sigma. Providing the right Six Sigma training helps because it allows employees to understand the real purpose of Six Sigma, which is to improve quality and efficiency by reducing the number of defects in business processes.

Training effectively clears the doubts that employees normally have about Six Sigma implementations.

Most Employees Need to Learn the Technicalities Involved

In the standard Six Sigma implementation process, many of the existing employees are inducted as implementation team members, making them directly responsible for the success or failure of the Six Sigma implementation project. This specifically is not a problem, but since most employees generally do not have any prior experience in Six Sigma implementations, it's highly unlikely that they would be able to do justice to their jobs as implementation team members.

This is exactly why they need to be given adequate training that covers all the important topics and technicalities such as DMAIC (define, measure, analyze, improve, and control), DMAIV (define, measure, analyze, improve, and verify), fishbone diagram, Ishikawa diagram, Design of experiments (DOE) and failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA).

Hiring Six Sigma Professionals is Expensive

Six Sigma professionals such as Black Belts and Master Black Belts can, no doubt, make it easier for businesses to achieve Six Sigma quality and efficiency levels, but since most of them charge top dollars, not all businesses can afford to hire their services. Businesses that are unable to do so can use the most cost-effective solution (i.e. provide professional training to existing employees).

This way, businesses can easily reduce costs and also ensure that future implementations do not get hijacked by unrealistically high demands of Six Sigma professionals.

There are many other reasons, but the ones explained above are probably the most valid since they directly affect the successful completion of Six Sigma implementation projects. Businesses that are skeptical about providing Six Sigma training should definitely consider these factors before making any further decisions.
