Finding True Love And Staying Safe With Online Dating

May 18, 2008
Finding that special person everyone needs can be very complicated in today's modern society. No one seems to have enough time to do it in the conventional ways such as going out dancing and a lot of the time we end up with less than good experiences. Luckily with modern times we also have new tools like the internet to meet Mr or Mrs Right. Dating people online can have its advantages and risks so it is important to follow a few tricks and tips to make it safer and more enjoyable for you.

There are several websites like Date com or PerfectMatch that can help you in meeting new people, but trying to talk to someone you have never met before can scare a lot of people! So now I am going to give some useful advice in how to stay safe while meeting this new potential partners. Lots of people dislike blind dates after all so why try and risk to meet a stranger whom you have never seen before? Well here I have some tips on how to get to know this person as good as you can.

Use legitimate, well known websites. Date com and PerfectMatch are great places to start your search for true love.

It is important to buy a webcam. There are some with very accesible prices you can find for less than 30 dollars. With a webcam you can use several messaging programs to actually see the person you are having a conversation with.

Invest in a microphone. Don't want to pay for those long distance calls? A microphone is a great way to talk to a person for free!

Don't give out your address or home phone number to a stranger.

Never meet anyone for the first time in a private place as it can lead to lots of nasty surprises. Always pick a public place and try to bring a friend along with you.

Always pay close attention to what the person you are with is telling you. Try to spot contradicting stories. If the person claims she is a doctor one week and a lawyer the next something is definitely wrong. There are a lot of online scammers around but they are usually not very smart and tend to get tangled in their own lies and if you pay attention you will spot them pretty easily.

Have fun. Not everyone you meet online will be a creepy liar. There are a lot of good people out there, just like you, who are looking for true love.

To really enjoy and bring the best out of online dating safety is the key. A safe surrounding is a must since you really don't know that person so well. So it is preferable to be in a place in which you feel safe so you can get to know them better without any worries. Never ignore your gut instinct: it tells you something is amiss then it probably is.

One of the biggest concerns with online dating is the legitimacy if the person you're meeting. Are they being honest with you? Are they really who they say? After meeting several people online, I've learned that sometimes people will lie, whether because it makes them look better or because they're insecure about themselves. So it can be hard to tell who's being honest with you. I've found that having a webcam and using a microphone are great tools because often times, if a person is dishonest you can see it on their face and hear it in their voice.

Always always know that information such as your phone number and address are off-limits, at least at first. Giving this information can lead to a potential disaster. If you feel like sharing your phone number use a cellphone at first since it is harder to extract information about you from this kind of phone number. If you really wish to give an address make it a PO Box or even your workplace before you give out your home's address. These are easy tips to follow but go a long way to help you in protecting yourself.

First dates should always take place in public places. If you really feel like you finally have the best person for you and cannot wait to meet... then arrange your date! But remember that if that date is in a public place it will feel safer for everyone, and if a bad situation should arise fro bad luck, it will be much easier to avoid it when surrounded by other people. Finding a type of date that gives you an excuse to bring a friend is always a good idea too. You don't want your first date to be somewhere all alone with a stranger. Bad idea!

Try to have fun too. You don't want to scare off your new date by telling him/her that you've already done a background check on them. Remember, not everyone is out there to hurt you. A lot of people are looking for true love and are just as scared as you are!

These tips are really not complicated and by following them you will have an easier experience in enjoying a movie or a nice dinner with that special someone you just met. Just try to take it with a possitive attitude, meet in a public place, listen close to what they say, pay attention to your inner voice, and take it slowly without giving too much information at first. Always have fun and stay positive... which is basically the point of this whole thing!
