Many people are not aware that they are suffering from high blood pressure because it has no overt manifestations, such as pain, dizziness or headaches. Usually, when you are sick and go to see your doctor, the doctor or nurse will take your vital signs, including your pulse, blood pressure and heart rate. From here, the doctor will usually let you know your body condition and tell you if you have high blood pressure.

If you are detected to have high blood pressure or hypertension, it is essential for you to treat it immediately as high blood pressure is a very serious condition that can have fatal consequences if you are not treated correctly and effectively. It can cause heart failure and fatal strokes.

High blood pressure is not a medical condition to take lightly. You should select a treatment whether to use traditional medicine or a natural remedy for high blood pressure.

Usually, traditional medicine used by physicians to treat high blood pressure is anti-hypertensive medications like Inderal, Tiazac, and many others. The great majority of these anti-hypertensive prescription medications have few, if any, unpleasant side effects. They work well by preventing a person blood pressure from rising past a certain point.

However, some anti-hypertensive prescription medications do have side effects like depression, and one type of medication just might work for you but not others. You may have to try numerous medications and dosages until it suit you.

Through physical and mental exercises in relaxation, you can slowly learn to control your breathing and heart rate. After a few tries, you will no longer need the biofeedback monitoring instruments; you should be able to do it on your own.

Herbal medicine

Herbal medicine is another type of natural remedy well use for high blood pressure. In this type of alternative medicine, roots, plants, leaves and bark of a beneficial nature are used to treat or prevent certain medical conditions. You should always let your doctor know that you are using herbal medicine as some prescription medications and laboratory tests can be negatively affected by the use of herbal medicine.

Olive leaves contain substances, called oleuropein; oleuropein will help treats infections, lowers blood pressure and lowers cholesterol. The ancient Greeks prized these olive leaves so well for their medicinal use that, as a testament to its health benefits. Olympic athletes also use these Olive leaves, they were crowned with wreaths of olive leaves.

Over the years, practitioners have done a lot of work on using herbal healing for high blood pressure. They have also successfully isolated some herbs that act as natural remedies for high blood pressure. Herbs like Garlic and Coleus is not suitable for this condition. Garlic contains substances called alliinase, alliin and allicin that help on blood flow to the brain and heart. However, garlic has a side effect, it has negative interaction with blood-thinning drugs like Aspirin, Warfarin, Heparin and large doses used by pregnant women can cause a miscarriage. It also may put the patient at risk of bleeding.

Another highly effective natural remedy for high blood pressure is Hawthorn leaves and flowers. This Hawthorn do not has the negative effects of garlic and coleus. Hawthorn works by regulating the heart's blood-pumping ability. Its usually comes in capsules; you should be carefully using this herb and never exceed the recommended dose since this could cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

Stevia leaves are the most recent herbal medicine use for high blood pressure. Stevia is a calorie-free sweetener that also appears to lower high blood pressure. But since more research is needed to insure Stevia's effectiveness and safety, it should only be used under the care of a doctor to avoid a dangerous drop in blood pressure.

Some herbs also can use to prevent high blood pressure. You should monitor your blood pressure regularly; if you see some thing not usual you should stop using the herbs and consult your doctor immediately. Prevent it is better than cure.
