If You Have Not Started Setting Your Goals, Read This!

If setting goals is crucial for us to achieve success in our life, then why do so many people not set goals?

Here are the reasons why most people never get down to designing the life they want.

The first reason is because of limiting beliefs.

The first thing that holds most people back are their limiting beliefs. Many people only dream about what they would love to have, but when it boils down to committing to a specific target and plan, they start to shy away. They do not even bother.

Something inside them tells them that there is no way to do it. It is too difficult or they simply do not have what it takes. These are nothing but limiting beliefs.

Unless we break through these generalizations about ourselves, we will never dare to set a goal that will drive us to the next level.

The second reason behind people not setting clear goals is: They do not know what they want. The sad thing is, many people live up to their mid forties and fifties only to find themselves still clueless about what they really want in their life.

They have never gotten clear about what is important in our lives. Since they do not even know what is important to them, they never know what is it they really want.

The third and perhaps the most paralyzing reason of all is this emotional state that we call fear. Fear of failure. Fear of rejection or embarrassment. Many people never design their life simply because of fear.

I remember a participant who attended one of my seminars, who never dared to set goals because of her intense fear of failing. She felt that if she did not set a goal, there was no way she could fail, there was no way she could feel bad.

But many people are guilty of the same thing.

Does this mean that people who set high expectations for themselves do not fear failure? Yes they do! Everyone hates and fears the feeling of failing, including myself.

What then gives us the courage to set high goals and go for it? It is how we truly define failure to ourselves that makes the difference. Here's a formula that I share with participants in my seminar: E + R = O. Event + Response = Outcome.

The only person, who can tell you that you have failed, and tell you to feel bad, is yourself! But the moment most people do not achieve what they want in their first attempt, they tell themselves that they have failed and they feel really bad about it. And it is this same bad feeling that prevents them from working and going towards future goals.

People, who constantly set high expectations and go towards them, do so because they define failure differently. They believe that not getting what they want is not failure. To these people, it is only feedback.

They do not feel bad at all. They feel that it is because they used the wrong strategy. They believe that the only way they can fail is to completely give up, not taking action anymore. In other words, as long as they keep going for it, again and again, they have not failed. This belief drives them to do anything, since they alone decide when they want to give up.

Now that you are aware of these reasons, start setting your goals and move forward achieving them courageously. Remember, only you and you alone decide whether or not you have failed, only you decide whether you stop or continue moving forward towards your goals.
