Stress Busters -5 Effective Ways

May 21, 2008
Stress is something we all have to deal with to some degree. Learning to reduce and manage our stress is important in order for it not to escalate and cause stress related illnesses.

Frequently, medication is typically the first option of the allopathic medical practitioner. While medication may be a quick fix, it doesn't work for everyone, has side effects and does not teach the person how to deal with the stress.

Those not wanting to go the allopathic way with prescription medication will, with a little research, be able to find many natural and effective ways of not only reducing the stress, but also learning alternative ways of reacting to the situations causing the stress.

Taking a long walk to clear your head is one of the best ways to alleviate stress. Walking is an excellent form of exercise for your body as well as your mind. You can walk out your frustration so that you'll be able to come back refreshed and tackle your problems again.

Shifting your mental gears by listening to music. Relaxing music, especially classical music, will help slow our thoughts down, allowing us to be more clear minded.

The overload can cause stress to escalate and bring on a number of problems for us, so give it a break. Listening to relaxing music will ease the racing thoughts and help us to think clearly when we return to our problems.

Find something you really enjoy doing and make sure you do it at least once per week.Doing something we enjoy puts us into a totally different mindset where our outlook on things will be quite different and a lot more positive. Having something fun to look forward to makes it easier to get through stressful days when life is too much.

You could start a craft project, go golfing or find something else you know you'll enjoy doing. Another option you could try is to treat yourself to a massage. Stress can cause your muscles to tighten and ache, making your stress worse. A massage can loosen up those muscles, which will loosen up your mind and you can then be ready to face your life again refreshed and renewed.

Many stressed persons have their emotions bottled up. Allowing emotions to flow is a very nice way to reduce stored stress. When you feel like crying go ahead and cry. Rent a sad movie and cry with it. Tears have the ability of lowering the stress hormone cortisol. It is a medical fact that crying lowers your stress level.

If anger is your first reaction to the stress, let it come out in a controlled situation like a punching bag. Control your stress before it starts to take control of you. Medications are one answer to alleviating the stress, but they're not the only answer. Find what works best for you and beat that stress in your life.
