1. Get a keyword-rich domain name. The most important keyword for your business must be present in your domain name. For example, if you sell flowers online, you should include the keyword "online florist" in the domain name of your website.

2. Have a SEO-friendly web design and architecture. I cannot stress how important this practice is. If your website is built with flash and JAVA, search engines will not be able to index the content of your site at all. This means that your website will not rank high on search engines. Therefore, before you hire a programmer to build your site, make sure that he or she knows what is SEO all about. There are certain guidelines to follow in order to build a SEO-friendly website and you need to make sure that he or she knows it.

3. Fill your website with quality content. Good content is king. With good content, you can entice your readers to find out more about you. It can also make search engines to give your site more importance and hence results in higher search engine rankings. When you are writing the content, do not repeat keywords too often within it. This is considered spamming and is not welcomed by search engines at all.

4. Place keywords in Title, META, Header and ALT tags of your site. These are all important areas where the keywords you wish to optimize must be present. When you are crafting out your Title tag, make sure that you write something which is both keyword-rich and user-friendly. With a keyword-rich title, your site will rank higher on search engines and increase its visibility. And if your title is user-friendly, it will entice searchers to click on your listing and visit your website to find out more about your business.
