May 21, 2008
Bangkok is generally very safe and comfortable travel destination in the region offering comfort and peace. Bangkok travel medicine precautions attempt to make your journey to Thailand and other adjacent travel destinations even more safe and healthy. However, it is always more than handy to take certain precautions before you begin your travel.

It is advisable to contact a travel medicine doctor either before you begin your travel or after reaching the region. You must beware of potential diseases and be very cautious in avoiding any probable risk for disease. This article provides you with some much-needed information on the root causes of diseases while traveling abroad.

Travel Medicine is a comparatively new sector that began in the 1980s. It was configured because of an increasing number of people embarking on international trips, particularly under developed countries.

As international travel has multiplied over the past few decades, the field of Travel Medicine emerged as a unique multidisciplinary specialty. It has several medical practices functioning in conjunction, which involves preventive and curative medicine, tropical medicine, infectious disease, and internal medicine, with the chief aim of diagnosing and curing travel-related disease as well as advocating safe and healthy travel.

You have to beware of potential diseases like mosquito-borne sicknesses. They are among major causes of worry for the people traveling abroad. These diseases comprise malaria, dengue fever, and Japanese Encephalitis among many others. Your risk of catching these diseases depends on your exact travel destination, duration of travel, and your travel route. The amount of risk should be evaluated and adequate risk reduction measures taken, i.e. vaccination, mosquito prevention strategies, and preventive medication.

In addition, Bangkok travel medicine precautions try to keep you away from food and water-borne diseases, as they are the other sources of possible diseases. These are very common because of alteration in food and water consumed.

The range of microorganisms in food and water in this part of the world is distinctive and though may not result in any problems with locals (who are acclimatized with it), will very commonly lead to problems among travelers. These can vary anywhere from mild gastrointestinal uneasiness and diarrhea to grave illness. Again, the degree of risk would depend on travel destination and travel itinerary.

In general, the advice is always to refrain from uncooked or not appropriately cooked food, raw/uncooked vegetables, and unpasteurized milk products. Consume only "bottled" water or carbonated beverages and wash hands regularly. Other options consist of medication for self-treatment of diarrhea.

"Outdoor" diseases can include potential risks like thorn in your flesh. Bush walking, trekking, hiking, swimming, camping are activities that are commonly favored in this part of the world. However, again, precautions have to be put in place. Rabies is very common in this region, and if there is a possibility of contact with animals, rabies vaccination prior to travel is strongly advised. Further, all associations with animals, including dogs, cats, monkeys, bats should be refrained from.

There are several tick-borne diseases that can be affected from bush walking; hence, it is highly advisable to wear adequate shoes throughout your journey. In certain regions, swimming in unchlorinated water may expose you for contracting parasitic diseases. In addition, there are known to be outbreaks of communicable diseases linked with swimming and expedition in certain areas.

Bangkok travel medicine precautions want you to be safe from the other risks like sexually transmitted diseases and body fluid transmissible diseases like HIV, hepatitis b, and hepatitis c. Always ensure that you maintain protected sexual contact. If you engage in activities necessitating body piercing or needles, do not share needles and be sure that sterile needles are utilized at all times. If you are conscious enough, the chances are that you will return unaffected after your journey.
