Where Are Guys Going to Catch Crappie on Lake Fork, and What is Working

Lake Fork is an excellent place to go crappie fishing. There are many different areas in this lake that is the home of this popular species of fish making it possible to catch your limit easily. You will find Lake Fork in Texas about 75 miles east of Dallas. It covers an area of 27,700 acres. Many anglers visit Lake Fork exclusively for the great crappie fishing. After all, they are one of the best tasting fish around and one of the main reasons they are so sought after.

Both white and black crappies are found in Lake Fork. However, the white crappie is the most abundant and is the species that is caught the majority of the time when fishing this lake. Of course, the main difference between the two species is the color. The white crappie has very light color scales while the black crappies are much darker in color with a black line running from their top fin to their mouth. Crappies are often referred to by other names such as papermouth, perch and slab just to name a few.

Crappie fishing is pretty easy even for the not so experienced fisherman so buying a bunch of expensive fishing gear is not necessary, unless you just enjoy carrying them around with you. The most popular equipment used for crappie fishing is the small ultra light rods combined with push button reels. These are simple but very effective. to catch crappie? Well most all anglers know that crappie tend to hang out under and around fallen trees, under bridges, near brush, grassy areas and hovering over deep holes, but did you know that they also have certain trails they travel regularly? Knowing where these areas are located on the lake and being able to return to them on a regular basis is the key to finding and catching crappie. This species is referred to as layer fish because they are normally suspended at different depths throughout the water depending on the time of year.

Therefore, the season you go fishing and the different weather conditions also makes a difference in where the crappie can be found. In the winter months they move out into deeper water near the dam, lake points and similar areas. When you find a location where the crappies are swimming all you need to do is drop in your anchor and begin fishing. Vertical jigging is recommended and will normally provide you with the best results. In the spring and fall seasons, the crappie can be found closer inland near the bridges and banks. When laying their eggs they can be found in very shallow water where they are easy to see.

If you prefer to go it alone then you can buy a map of the area that gives you details and so forth to help you out. Local bait shops can provide you with these maps along with other vital information that can add to the success you can have.
