May 23, 2008
Overall,. acupuncture is an art of healing that dates back to hundreds of years. Acupuncture involves the insertion of a series of thin needles in specific points in the body according to the location of the ailment the patient is suffering from. These needling of various points corresponding to where the pain is, result in pain relief to the patient.

The treatment -- differs on each patient, depending on the kind of illness, the stage the illness is in ( is it just starting or is it at its advanced stage?), and the patient's response to acupuncture. The acupuncture session is often in combination with other forms of therapy for better results. Treatments are normally scheduled weekly, then at a reduced frequency as the patient's health improves. Acupuncture can only be effective in the hands of a certified practitioner, who truly understands the fundamentals of the traditional Chinese acupuncture.

Acupuncture is not only for treating illnesses, it is also a preventive measure . It can be used to prevent disharmony, which causes the illness, from developing. If everything in the human body is balanced, then no illness shall occur. For example, a troubled or over-worked brain may damage the spleen, which could lead to Q1 deficiency. Naturally, the deficiency of one component, shall result to an overall imbalance.

Acupuncture is based on the principles or Chinese belief that Qi ( pronounced as "chee"), the term for the life force or "energy force" , exists and enforces control anywhere in the world, including the human bodies. Qi flows in the human body as shown in the acupuncture chart. The lines indicating the flow of Qi are called meridians or pathways. Blocked pathways can reduced the amount of Qi flowing in the body and consequently, imbalances happen. It is part of the belief that illnesses are caused by any imbalances of the Yin and Yang the terms for the positive and negative forces respectively of expansion or contraction.

Acupuncture can also be used as a preventative treatment as it is often possible to detect imbalances in the body before illness occurs. The earlier a disorder is detected the better so regular checkups are recommended. Acupuncture is a safe treatment for all. It has proved to be effective in pregnancy management and for the relief of pain in childbirth. Acupuncture can also help with migraines or headaches, even disorders such as insomnia, depression, fatique or irritable bowel syndrome.

The acupuncturist have treated the Chinese people for common illnesses as well as stress-related ones. The needle placed at strategic parts of the body aid in the release of energy blocks to stimulate the body to the road of self -recovery. More and more people are availing of acupuncture as an affordable alternative treatment for their medical problems such that there is a demand for trained personnel to administer this form of therapy

Needles used in acupuncture activate small nerve fibers in the muscle, which transmit impulses to the spinal cord and activate centers in the central nervous system, releasing a variety of neurotransmitters. Pain relief, for example, is mediated by the release of opioid-like substances. Needles are placed at specific points along meridians, or channels to balance the free flow of energy, restoring the health. These channels are connected to a specific area or organ system of the body.
