A Basic Strategy Guide to Texas Hold 'Em Poker

May 23, 2008
Texas Hold 'Em has clearly become one of the most popular online and offline poker games of all time. At the heart of this popularity is the ease of learning the game and the maintenance of difficulty for players who are skilled in the art of poker. Anyone and everyone can learn to play Texas Hold 'Em with a few basic strategies.

When learning to play Texas Hold 'Em it is important to learn the beginning rules before trying to learn any strategic plans. Learning strategies effectively will be based on the overall knowledge of the game.

Time for a flop? Believe it or not, less than 25% of the hands you are dealt should make it to the flop stage. Bailing out of a hand before the flop is turned can save a lot of that betting money. A hand needs to be solid and show great promise for the professional Texas Hold 'Em poker player to hold on to those cards.

Watch for a reaction. The others players at the table may also be new to Texas Hold 'Em poker and thus may react to the cards being laid on the table. Watch for these reactions, they can tell you whether or not the player has a good hand, a great hand, or a hand they wished was folded before the flipping of the cards.

Know the opponent. If playing with the same Texas Hold 'Em poker players over and over again, it will become easier to judge their style of play over time. If playing in a tournament, note the actions of the players, how they react to certain bid amounts and how they react in high intensity situations. These tips will give you an inside eye when you play against the same players again.

No bluffs here. Bluffing is not a professional tactic and it should not be a novice Texas Hold 'Em poker tactic either. The bluff can be left for friendly games and games where money is not on the line. When it comes to messing with your own real money, bluffing is not an advisable practice.

Fold those tough ones. Not every hand can be the best hand you have been dealt all day. When playing Texas Hold 'Em poker is a money risk setting, folding early can save a couple of rounds of betting and thus keep your chips high for those hands that are sure to win the pot. When a player does not fold early enough they are just throwing away money.

Texas Hold 'Em poker is an exciting game that has taken the world by storm. At first, many people though the television shows surrounding this phenomenon were gong to fade and people would eventually stop playing the game with such verve. This, of course, did not happen and Texas Hold 'Em poker is still a thriving sport with many followers. These strategic tips can help to move your game play from novice to professional in no time flat.
