Cheap Calculators

May 23, 2008
Calculators are basic tools which help a person deal with simple and complex computations.

Calculators have been around the world since the late 1960s but not until the 1980s that this work of genius became available to majority of the public. Just like any other gadget, getting a calculator nowadays is a necessity rather than luxury which was the case in the earlier times. In the past, the size of this tool is comparative to a modern computer however, thanks to advancement in technology; many manufacturers have managed to reinvent this very useful device in all shapes and sizes. Most of these machines are powered either by batteries or solar cells. From small keychain-sized units to desktop calculators as large as a book, your personal adding machine should help alleviate you of all computation burdens.

Today there are several types of calculators that are out in the market. General calculators have the four basic mathematical operations plus one or two additional functions such as square root or percentage. It is good to have one like this close by for emergency purposes. A general calculator may likewise have a function which lets the user print the inputs made in it. This machine now can be classified as a printing calculator and most homes and small business/offices utilize these kinds because of the simplicity in functions. For students, a scientific calculator is a big help in surviving statistics and trigonometry. Not only that, several algebraic and quadratic equations can now be solved simultaneously with a push of a button on a graphing calculator. Engineers and other professionals whose work involves drawings and estimations could well exploit such kind of instrument.

What's more, bankers and businessmen alike could enjoy smoother transactions with clients because they can never go wrong in their computations when they use business and finance calculators. This type is similar to a scientific one except for a fact that it recognizes time value of money calculations. Aside from these mentioned, there are other programmable calculators which allows the user to store and retrieve data as needed. In terms of cost, expect that the more advanced ones will rip you off good money but there are a lot out there which perform just as good. Casio, Sharp, Hewlett-Packard, Canon USA and Texas Instrument are but few of the leading companies responsible for coming up with some of the finest and most advanced lines of modern-day calculators.

Many believed that the invention of the handy electronic machine is a breakthrough. It definitely hastened complex calculations which, on a normal basis, would take longer than pushing a few buttons in a calculator. Nevertheless, schools all over the world exert effort in encouraging manual or mental solving of problems and arithmetic expressions in all levels. Educators feared that excessive use of calculators would hinder a student from becoming proficient in the basic concepts of mathematical operations.

In addition, lack of guidance in the use of these learning tools could be the underlying reason for someone to have restricted knowledge of the fundamentals. This fact then may affect him in grasping more complex mathematical concepts. Errors do not only apply to students. Anyone could carelessly manipulate this simple machine and believe the answer to be correct without counter-checking the computations made. Quite an effortless way to make a mistake; students and professionals alike should remember that calculators are unlike computers in that they give results based on inputs and are not equipped with other programs capable of identifying and correcting inaccuracies. But no matter what kind you make use of, a calculator is a tool intended to ease your day-to-day computations. So better find one that serves you right.
