May 25, 2008
There are some very impressive bas fishing lakes in San Diego. If you want some trophy size bass, you can fish Lake Cuyamaca, Dixon Lake, Lower Otay Reservoir, Lake Jennings, San Vicente Reservoir and Lake Miramar. These lakes have a large population of bass and other species of fish. For the most part, most of the lakes also have trout and bluegills. The San Diego area has some beautiful lakes that have produced some large numbers of bass. Most of the lakes are easy to get to from the city of San Diego. You can fish from shore or from a boat.

Lake Cuyamaca is not only the best bass lake it also provides a scenic view that is unforgettable. The lake is by the mountains of Cuyamaca and is about one hundred and ten acres of fishing water. You can fish from shore or in a boat on this lake. The lake has boat rentals available so you do not have to worry about bringing a boat along. You can use float lines to fish for bass. The worm harness and a nightcrawler will work just fine for catching bass. Many anglers will just opt to fish from shore or wade into the water a little to catch the bass.

Dixon Lake is another find bass fishing lake. The only problem with this lake is you cannot take your own boat out on the waters. Anglers at Dixon Lake find that the bass are located on the north side of the lake by the shore. There are other shallow areas around the lake where you can find bass as well. The average sized bass coming out of this lake is about three pounds. You can use a swim bait or a plastic bait of any type to hook a bass. The record catch on Dixon Lake was a female a little over twenty-one pounds on a Mission Fish swimbait.

The Lower Otay Reservoir has proved to be a great place to fish for bass. If you want to keep your fish, you will find that this part of the reservoir is the place to fish. The Upper Otay Reservoir only allows catch and release. This lake allows you to bring your own boat or you can rent one from the local office. The daily catch limit is five bass, but you could also take some bluegills and crappies as well. The fishing is great from a boat and from shore. This area is quiet and easy to access. There is always some good bass fishing spots.

Lake Miramar is another place where you can catch bass from shore or in a boat.
You can rent boats on the weekends or use your own boat any time. The bass population is large and some nice sized fish have been reported coming out of the lake. You can use a nightcrawler and catch a good size bass. The lake has had some impressive catches weighting twenty plus pounds. One place that seems to keep the big fish is west of the docks. You can cast a plastic worm and the bass are going to take the bait.
